nurses and surgeon seen on the 9th October and my surgery he said will be before Xmas but no letter, email or phone call yet! Do I call them or email them ? I don't want to be a pain but I need to tell work something soon as it's unfair on them.
Plus i would love to blame my lack of sleep on apprehension but I fall asleep ok just can't stay asleep 2-4 hours and that's its that choking feeling awake then till 5 or 6. Can anyone help why do I get this?

Hi beepbeepcat sorry I can't help you out on your question but maybe have a word with your gp see what he suggests or someone on here may have experienced the same thing it's looking like we could be having hour surgery around the same time xx

Hey,

I wouldn't worry too much about a date just yet as I saw the nurses and surgeon back in July then had my pre op 4th sept and just waiting for a date for surgery, I did ring the surgeons secretary to see if she could be any help regarding a date and all she could say is that it will definitely be this year!
So I'm kinda just trying to put the waiting out of my mind (easier said than done!) and take each day as it comes, they said they would phone me to give me a date.

I'm waiting too. Met surgeon on 7th Sept and was told op date would be no longer than 18 weeks from the date that I attended the seminar, which was in August. That means should be no later than 21st December but I've not heard anything yet either. Just want to know a date as I'm a single mom so got my son, the dogs and work to sort. As a teacher I'm hoping it does fall almost exactly to the date so I've got the school holidays to recover and don't have to miss much time, if any. They need to tell us in the next few weeks because I'd be having to start the pre-op diet in 4-6 weeks.

Hiya,

When I told the surgeons secretary that the surgeon had told me about 2-3 months wait back in July she went mad! She said the surgeons can't possibly know as its upto their secretary that does their diary and sorts the dates out, so maybe if you contacted your surgeons secretary you may get a better idea of waiting time?

Apparently 18 weeks is the guidelines given by NHS. I asked the surgeon if they could work round school holidays, expecting it to probably be Easter hols, he told me they HAVE to offer me an appointment within 18 weeks, but if I can't do it I can call and re-arrange for later.

I'm still waiting too. Had my surgeon appointment in May and was told approx 4 months, rang appointments at heartlands in September and was told no bariatric surgery until November/ December. Getting a little fed up, thinking about ringing the surgeons secretary. What are your thoughts?

Hiya,

Worth a phone call to his/her secretary as they are more clued up on timescale I guess.

Mine is with Heartlands too Lin. They're not managing the 18 week thing then are they? Were you asked to take part in the study? I'd let to bet those people are getting priority. I hope it comes through soon. I was banking on it being around Xmas. I might try calling next week if not heard anything.

I'm pretty sure the 18 week rule is from GP referral to being initially seen at hospital because this is for all referrals regardless of the surgery, you must be seen within 18 weeks or the hospital is 'fined' it's a shame that there's no time deadline for referral to surgery X

Thanks caz, I'm off work Wednesday so will add it to my list. Shaz no not doing the study as I'm having a sleeve and I believe the study was only if you were being banded. Nice to see you on here again by the way

Gosh it's so different for everyone. I was asked which hospital I would like to be referred to after completing tier three and I opted for Spire Soton as they are who I done the program through. Spire are a private health group and it seems that they ask the questions to the patient as the surgeon asked me if I wanted it sooner before Xmas or after! Of course I said ASAP before Xmas as I have been fighting for this for ten years. Hence why I'm a little worried as Xmas only a few weeks away and I've not had a call about pre operation appointment, pre operation diet or a surgery case. I've emailed surgeon secretary today ( well at 3am) as I've got myself so worked up.

I'm having the sleeve too Lin. Anyone who agrees to take part in the study gets a procedure picked for them at random. I saw Mr Super, who I know only does bands. Wish they'd hurry up! It was Mr Super who definitely told me that they HAD to offer a date for surgery within 18 weeks of the seminar. If you chase, let me know how you get on. You should really be in soon.

How are you doing Sharon? Are you finding it easier since you've had the band filled?

I'm finding it extremely hard I'm hungry and can eat a large amount if I wanted to but I'm still trying my damn hardest to stick to the rules, I've rang the hospital asking for a second fill but I've been told as I'm still losing weight the band must be still working for me and that I don't need a fill. 15 weeks banded today and lost 3st 10lbs in 15 weeks. How are you getting on Sharon, any news on your surgery?

Shaz I will let you know how I get on when I call. When the study was mentioned at the seminar, they only wanted people who were thinking of the band, that was around March early April time, so they may have changed it afterwards.

Well done Sharon on your loss, keep up the good work.

Know we need to be patient but wish they would hurry up.

Thank you Lin davey. Is the study the new protecter band? I had my seminar 9th March and nothing was said about the study, when I saw the surgeon end of March he told me about the protecter band which I had fitted and I was banded July 7th x

Hi toddshar, not too sure can just remember it being mentioned at the seminar and there was a lady there taking details if you had decided to go with the band. Just had my surgery date for 2nd November so excited.

This must be a new study, it's comparing all 3 procedures.

Well done on your loss Sharon, that's brilliant.

How exciting Lindavey..... That's only 2 weeks away!! Only a 2 week pre-op diet? Bonus! Lol x
