Hello everyone, well today has been better than yesterday which is good, was not a happy bunny, but I wonder how long does it take for the cuts to close properly? I am scared of having a shower because of the glue...

Do you not have waterproof dressings on , sugar? I had a shower daily from the day after my op but then I was stapled. I had my staples out 10 days post op & the wounds were all fully closed. If you have the waterproof dressings on, you will be fine ... enjoy xxx :):):)

I had my op Tuesday night and had a shower in hospital Thursday morning, they told me to take my dressings off and then they put fresh ones on, I now only have 2 dressings on as all the rest are healed lovely, I have had a shower every day with no issues, I too have glue but I can see bits of nylon poking out of a couple of the bigger wounds. :) just make sure u completely dry off after and u will be fine Hun :) xx

Sorry if I am stupid but I only have one dressing, my other three aren't covered only by the glue so that's what I was worried that with the water the glue ll start pealling off. I ll but some waterproof plaster on and see how I go. Thanks everyone x

Why would you think your are stupid??? It was a legitimate concern & therefore the question needed asking. How are you to know what is normal ... you only have your own experience to draw on unless you turn to us. Good on you for getting sorted. Is there anything nicer than a lovely shower/bath xxx :)

Cling film body wrap?!!! Lol :)

I have dissolvable stitches and in the hospital they took dressings off and put some spray over them all. Then said I could shower just not rub my stomach. I have no dressings on any of them. Did they spray you like me? Lol x

i had a shower 2 days after my op the only thing that got wet (not including me :p) was the pad covering my vent ................i too was glued

Hi there. As far as I'm aware, you shouldn't really have a bath yet with the wounds submerged as it can make the wounds too wet but showering is fine and just pat them dry. I had to take all of my dressings off after the first day as I was allergic to the adhesive in everything they tried! In fact the wounds healed faster than the blisters I got from the adhesives! I had a couple of bits of nylon stitch hanging out for several weeks and I started playing with them... i know...its gross....but then one day one of them pulled out but it was fine. Hope this helps xx

Thanks everyone. My OH put waterproof plaster on and I had the quickest shower ever but felt more human after this. Can't wait to be able to either have a long enough shower to wash my hair or to be able to bent enough over the bad to wash my hair lol. My belly is still swollen but it is getting there I think slowly but shortly. One more question if I may, when did u go back to sleeping flat? At the hospital they kept me up right and have tried to do the same at home but my back is starting suffering now.... thanks again everyone

Hey hunny, I didn't feel like i could lay flat for 3-4 nights as I felt like it was pulling at the stitches inside (weird I know) but now I'm laying flat fine and even on my side last night for the first time with no discomfort. Just lay however you are comfortable, your body will soon tell you if it doesn't like it. If it doesn't hurt to lay flat then I would lay that way

I have to lie flat because of my bad back, it is a little tender and sore for a few minutes when I first lie down and then everything settles into place, I think u have to just use trial and error to get yourself comfy :) xxx
