Has anyone got fed up of waiting for a band and went private ??? ive just started the road to my band but alot of people seem to have to wait ages for it, where if you go private its a few week but costs alot .

Hi I initially went to my GP for a referral which had to go to region for funding approval - this was the beginning of June. As I wasn't diabetic he wasn't certain they would fund anyway.
Since then I have gone private and had my band fitted last Thurs - who knows how long I would have been waiting for a reply!!!!!

Hi there

I waited around 15/16 months from first referral to fitting , and I didn't get fed up at all, it went really quick for me. How long u been waiting or wot stage u at atm ??

All the best MeJulie x x

If it was cheaper id be straight for private but 5,000 is alot of money, were looking at moving house so can't really afford to be paying out money like that but im 30 next august and have promised myself i wont be big, ive spent my whole 20's being overweight. x

i must admit i went in june to the GPs got the ok for funding of the PCT in july and im going for a glucose test next friday, so it has went really quick so far, ive just read alot of people have had to wait ages. xx

babybell i have felt exactly the same as you hun. It is a lot of money and with you having your funding i would wait, i know its hard, think of all that money you could save, good luck hope your journey up to your op goes quickly for you xxx

I had a bypass but the NHS route wasn't for me. I know people who were at the same hospital as me who were in the queue before me and are still waiting. I am not a patient person so we took the bull by the horns and I had my bypass last November.

Some PCT's and hospitals are quicker than others so it is hard to judge by anyone else's experience. But I got tired of the hoop jumping and sheer nastiness that I was going through with my hospital.

its a 14-18 months wait here in Sunderland, it is worth it tho as the aftercare is very important with banding, as ive come to find out, it is worth the wait x

You say you don't want to be fat at thirty but have been overweight for 20 years? Take it from me the wait of 18 months will be nothing compared to the time it took you to put the weight on. Be patient and if you want to help it along why not try and change your habits now to help for when you get your band?

Good luck on your journey x

I agree with Phatmomma, use your time now to get into good habits. Had to wait 18 months for my funding but I know if I need aftercare its there for life.

if i had of been a private patient i would of had to find funds over again for band removals replacements ect, the nhs aftercare is invaluble x

I have been waiting for 18 months so far and still dont know if i have funding or not! I am phoning my GP today to see if they have heard anything. If i dont get funding i will have to pay for myself .

i hope you get funding poo bear.....yeah i know girls you are all right. im lucky to be already have funding. thanks. xx
