Got restriction but struggling!!

Hi everyone!!

I've had 3 fills now....the last one 2 weeks ago.

I lose well for a few days and I have good restriction but i always seem to overeat on stuff that goes in easy.
Chocolate, cakes, biscuits, icecream etc and I just can't seem to stop myself.

Eating good healthy food isn't a pleasurable experience at all. Yes it goes in if I chew well and go really slow but the pleasure i get from food is in the bad stuff.

I don't know how to stop myself.

I've lost 2 stone but know I could have lost more if I'd been good throughout.

Wondering now if I've wasted my money on the band and should have gone for the bypass....would only have been a couple of thousand more...

HELP!!!

Amanda

I dont know really what to say as I have not yet had the op. I went to see the Consultant with a view to banding, he seems to be leaning more towards the bypass. He did say he gets people going back to him wanting the bypass after having the band for a year or two. Like I said I cannot help you but I have been leaning more towards the bypass with reading some posts on here. I dont really eat unhealthy foods just too much of the good stuff so really sorry I cant help. Do you have any contact with a dietician? maybe they can advise....Linda x

hi amanda
i can relate to you..
i had band just over 5wks ago and got my first fill monday.
i am constantly hungry and i will eat icecream and chocs that slip through.
i am hoping my fill will help but really i got to sort me mind out as my stoache has allreay been sorted and what i put in 2 it is coming from my mind and not from my stomache..
if that makes any sense?

I am fine Emma enjoying being off work (still signed off sick) but feel guilty for not being there! I would like a few more weeks off as I still have good and bad days. Not sure if you know my daughter and I have not spoken for over 6 months we were very close and it came out of the blue. I cannot make the move to recitfy this not because I am stubborn but because of what happens she needs to come to me to let me know that she wants me back in her life if that makes sense. Anyway sometimes I can laugh and joke about it and other times it breaks my heart and I never know which way its going to go. I want this time off to sort my head and get stronger so I can go back and get stuck into my job and move on until she is ready to come back. Do you think I am selfish not going to work? I let the doctor make the decision last time but as I had sinus infection he was not going to make me go and I am due to see him again on tuesday. I do get depressed from time to time and dont want to go down that route again...sorry for going off tangent but just would like someone to say I am doing the right thing and not to feel guilty lol....Linda x

I'm the same....yes it's def a head thing!

I've been eating crap for years, suppose I'm addicted to overeating.

Did have counselling for it but NHS would only allow 7 weeks per person....and that was general counselling. Think maybe I should seek out and self fund some more.

I went over to Prague for my band and had 3 months 'so called' support but to be honest it wasn't worth it. The dietician was useless...I knew more about dieting than she did.

Yes I do know about dieting...well I know the rules but never seem to be able to put it into practise lol

hi amanda i think all of us that get to the point of needing surgery have some head issues to sort i had pyscotherpy and it helped to a degree congnative behavioural therapy would be worth looking into it helps you learn to do other things when the need to eat what you shouldnt calls it also helps you figure out why you eat like you do id say you may need to talk to a dietician again you can have things that are fattening in small amounts , i am waiting on my first fill and can eat like a horse but im lucky that im not feeling any need for chocolate yet although i have had some cheesy curl crisps lol iv go for the baked low cal ones 2 stone is still a loss and thats what counts take it a day at a time and dont beat yourself up over it or the guilt will make you want to have comfort foods and good luck

ohh linda
i didnt know about your daughter hun..
sos to hear it.me and my mum fell out about 4years ago now and didnt speak for 12months HARDEST time in life. we just wouldnt back down too much alike..then 1day it all opened up and we bumped into each other and spoke again. no your not being selfish i went on sick after op longer than really needed and i felt guilty but needed to get my head round it all..
you take as long as you feel and i am always ere for you hun

Ah thanks Emma hun it makes a difference to get someone elses opinion. I have eaten too much today, I am sat with my tummy hanging on my knees but that image goes out of my head when I walk into the kitchen. I cannot seem to relate to the fact that I am not hungry. Also with it being pay day I have done a monthly shop and whilst its healthy stuff I have in I keep running through meals I can make in my head! I have been waiting for cognative threapy for over two years! Before christmas last year I rang the head of the department and he said "your near the top of the list will be around christmas time" yeah right which year though lol...I am hoping to break destructive cycles in me.....but its back to the NHS waiting lists and money yet again. I think we did not have problems with losing weight we would not be on here but I for one am grateful that it has introduced me to some lovely people....Linda xx

Amanda as a cheaper option get a copy of the paul mckenna i can make you thin book and cd. It certainly helped me regarding my outlook on food. still overeat but not the chocolate and chrisp that i used too.
just a surgestion but hope it helps.

Thanks for your replies :D

After gaining a couple of pound in the lateer part of last week I seem to have lost them again yesterday and today so I'm back to my lowest.

I had a couple of chocolate moments last night and saturday but managed to control them with choc options....think I should keep a packet with me at all times.

Losing those couple of pounds has given me encouragment to carry on....if I could just be good from now I'll maybe lose a few more by the end of the week. Saturday is main weigh day so I'll let you know :)

If I had another fill maybe I'd feel better....even 0.5 or 1cc might just get me to the sweet spot.

Hiya just reading some of your posts, i had my band in 2 weeks ago now and ive lost 1 stone 2 lbs im now craving for something to chew i need real food stuck on liquids is driving me mad. Any advice would be apprieciated. I had some scrambled egg on saturday and was fine with it. Has anyone had soft foods before their liquid diet was up?

Chezza I was the same 2 weeks after my band, I couldn't stand anymore soup! I started to eat scrambled egg and tins of pasta, like heinz spagetti (spelling!?!) That gets boring too, but it will vary things up a wee bit for you!

I'm yet to have my first fill, its going to be 6 weeks post op by the time I get it and i'm struggling! I have no restriction, at all. I'm trying hard not to overeat but there have been a few bad days. Roll on the 6th!

Try shop made (or your own...I'm just lazy lol) cottage or shepherds pie....very sloppy...and quite tasty.

I ate a lot of cottage cheese and tinned sardines...again nice and soft and full of protein

Amanda - I think you've done really well. A 2 stone loss has made a huge difference to your health, so you should be proud of your achievement. Remember this is just the start -you've done this without the restriction so far, so give yourself a pat on the back.

Hi Hun
You have done really well - 2 stone off is pretty good going and you should give yourself a pat on the back.
Just run with it hun - I have just started craving sweet stuff again and it is not easy but you just have to take it one day at a time - celebrate the good days and dont be too hard on yourself on the bad. Try a food diary perhaps, but ultimately, regardless of if you have the band or the bypass you still have to make changes and we all know that we cannot carry on eating the way we did before, no matter how much we might want to!!
Stick with it - you are doing amazingly well even if just now it does not feel that way xx

Hiya vixi. im doing loads better now and have restriction im debating if i should have a fill before i go on hols in 4 weeks or wait till after. Im really trying to be good but i decided to treat myself on saturday night watching x-factor so i did eat a bag of walkers cheese & onion and had a whisper and 5 aero bubbles but i did feel really bad after reaaly guilty but like cazza says that aint too bad i would have normally ate the family pack of areo bubbles 4 bags of crisp and 6 other bars of choc before. I did feel sick after though and with the guilt trip wont be doing it again.x
