:sigh:Listening to you all, i feel greedy.
I had my op in Nov and can eat anything,
Bread, cakes, biscuits, and a plate of soup
Have i stretched my pouch? or am i BAD,
I do dump but only slightly, and i stop when i feel full, But people say they can only eat a few spoonfulls
what is wrong with me,I have lost 3 half stone and would like to lose another stone, but i am slowing.
Tell me if i am doing this wrong:break_diet:

alot of the posts you will be reading are from those immediately post op. We know that we can hardly eat anything in those first couple of months. What did your surgeon advise for you to be eating?

I think as long as you are under 1000 calories a day, you should be ok. Remember the golden rule though, protein first! Fills you up really quickly :)

Wendy, we had our ops the same day, remember me? To be honest I find that I can eat anything now and although I was what was termed 'a sensitive dumper' in the beginning I don't appear to dump at all now. I'm a bit fearful of that as although it was awful, it used to keep me in check if I am honest. I am losing weight albeit slowly and occasionally have stuck for three or more weeks. What I'm trying to say is that we are all different and all react differently, but so long as we keep on the straight and narrow for the majority of us it will come off. I think you are doing fine, you stop when you feel full, that's good. My Consultant told me that snacking in between meals is the biggest downfall for most of us and I think I am inclined to agree. I have just returned from a lovely holiday and I did eat more that I usually do, I also fit in little bits and bobs inbetween as it was half board. When I came home I put 2 pounds on, I was mortified. Keep going friend you'll get there.

I have rejoined a slimming group (shock horror, never thought i'd do that again after wls) because i can eat anything and everything (only small portions mind). I could eat 1000+ calories a day at your stage easily, yet people said only have 750. Errr i'm hungry....

The thing you have to do now is make sure that although you can eat the good stuff, make your choices well.

I haven't obviously, but i'm changing it and i'm moving more. My wls is a tool and that is it. For the first few months the weight falls off whatever we do, after that you have to start putting in the effort.

Good luck xx

As the others have said its probably the very new post oppers that can only eat a few mouthfuls.
I am nearly a year post op and can definitely eat more than that but if I eat solid protein I can't yet eat a whole chicken breast.
I have to be very mindful of nibbling though as a lot of extra calories can slip in that way.
Sounds like you're doing great to me xx

Hi Wendy,
Your profile doesnt state the procedure you had??? This is my experience and it is similar to yours.
I am week 5 and although I eat much smaller quantities, I have yet to find a food that I cant take. I never feel full either. My weightloss was 2 stone in two months on the pre op diet but only 1 stone 4 pounds in 4 weeks post op. I am convinced my pouch is bigger than it should be too but I feel like I have got to the stage of droning on and on. My surgeon was almost put out when I said I was disappointed but the issue that I have with everyone that I come into contact with is this - I have paid for Weight Loss surgery but none of the professionals deem it appropriate to discuss Weight Loss!! They say I shouldnt compare my losses to others etc but again, this is impossible when you attend Support Groups and go on Forums.

Hi Suzanne,

I share your fears. I am having POSE (privately) and certainly hoping for a big change in my eating habits. It is not my intention to eat all the biscuits, chocs, crisps etc. I ate before but, further down the line, after the post-op stage I will be sooooo disappointed if I can eat anything and everything again.
It's so good to hear your perspective on this; hang in there.

Thanks Lynda and I hope it all works out for you.

Its not about what you can and can't eat, its about what you chose to eat. The sooner we get our heads around that the better our chances of lifelong success.

Hi Karlos,

I hear what you are saying but when in my experience you are following the guidelines to the letter and have in all honestly never cheated - you must be able to understand my frustration?
Always protein first, then salad or veg and lastly carbs ( I have very few carbs indeed). I drink the recommended amount and go to a gym 3 times a week.
If patients make poor choices they must expect failure but when they are compliant, is it too much to expect success?

I'm not much good on this site so it may take a while before I catch up with you to reply.
Anyway, I do SO agree with you. It's not my intention to eat the way I did before but I don't want to have to struggle and maintain this iron will-power (which inevitably fails) and that's why I paid for the POSE procedure. My surgeon did say that it's about choices but I want help with making these. I'm at the immediate post-op stage of liquids-only but sometimes I feel I could start grazing/picking again and it terrifies me!

Hi Lynda,
Thank you so much. People have to recognise the fact that there is one group of WLS patients that the weight falls off and you look in amazement at their superb losses......but then there are those that seem to struggle from the beginning and who dont have superb losses.
At my support group there are 4 women who all live locally to me and who all had the same procedure as me. Their losses have been amazing and have been no less than a stone a month since surgery. I unfortunately am the odd one out.
Have a word with your dietitian Lynda and he/she should be able to help you make good and enjoyable choices. Best of luck to you.

Hi Suzanne,
(Wow, found you again!) Poor you - it must be soul destroying to see the weight dropping off the others while you do all the right things without getting the hoped-for results. I was supposed to join a support group but as it's held on a weekday evening in Hertfordshire and I live in Somerset and I work it was going to be impossible to join in. I have to email the surgeon's secretary if I have any questions. I do feel a bit out on a limb but, I must say, joining this site has helped enormously.

You hang in there.

xx

Thanks all you guys its nice to know im not the only one, i must keep of the biscuits its so easy to have one with tea
