Grehlin, POSE, and Wrap

Violet one

Pre-opper
I have a consultation with a POSE surgeon next week, and was wondering if the POSE procedure reduces grehlin (hunger)

I have heard that the wrap doesn't reduce hunger, so I'm torn between the two

Any comments welcome

There's a great thread on the pose can't do links as on phone but people were not happy with the results, hope you find the thread as it gives you a good incite on how people felt they were ripped off by the procedure and should have had another type of wlsurgery. X

Can honestly say ive not felt hungry since i had my wrap in October :) According to Cosmetic Bliss theres no evidence one way or the other about reducing ghrelin but anecdotaly it does seem to reduce but no one seems to know why.

Grehlin is a hormone found in the lining of the stomach,if the stomach is reduced the amount of grehlin is too!

Hmmm - obv not an expert by ANY stretch BUT I am sure that my provider told me that the 'hunger gland' is wrapped up in the wrap??? And hunger is significantly reduced :)

It's interesting to note that ghrelin was only "discovered" in 1999, and they are working on a drug to target it. So it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they don't know if the ghrelin is suppressed or not in the ops. I shall grill Dr Sufi on Wednesday about it.

Hi ,

I had pose surgery done a month ago , and although it is very early days for me yet , I can confirm that , for me , it definitely helps quite dramatically with hunger.

I used to have ravenous hunger pangs if I went for longer than three hours between meals with " the shakes " ( low blood sugar I'm guessing ) feelings / grumbling tummy etc / all this is now gone . If I do feel " hungry' it's more a feeling of " stomach emptiness after about 5 hours or so .

Weight loss slow for me with this / I was expecting more at this stage / 6 lbs gone so far

Hi alexandrite,

Hope it is going well. I am still operation free, as my husband s against it. Will keep working on him.

Do you still lack "hunger" ?

Hi violet one

I am sorry to report that the effects of pose ( for me ) wear off after the three month stage . I have lost 6 pounds only ( which I had to GAIN to be eligible for the surgery in the first place !! )
I am back on my weight loss medication and running 3-4 days a week in an attempt to control my weight .
It has been a complete waste of my time , effort and money ( it cost me 8 k and also associated flights and hotel costs as I live in Ireland and had my surgery in Manchester)
My weight loss support company have asked me to " come on board with them in relation to weekly weight in telephone calls etc , but I don't hold out much hope .
I am hungry most of the time following their " plan "
If all I needed was diet and exercise in the first place , I wouldn't have put myself through this procedure .
Sorry to sound so negative , but I'm finding it difficult to be positive about this weight loss surgery at the moment . / it's 4 months since my pose procedure and I feel it helps me by about 5 per cent only ( at most)
I went on holidays very recently with 4 friends who know me a very long time - no one made any comment as regards my eating habits ( as eating smaller portions - which I was) or that I have loss weight ( which I have not ) I'm the same as before surgery .
A waste of my time , effort, money and has damaged my self esteem .
I would NOT recommend this surgery to anyone .

Sorry to hear that.
I am thinking about getting a shrink to see if I can accept myself instead and look at the cause of my overeating. Not a permanent solution though. The trouble is finding one that specialises.
I tried counselling before, with the national eating disorders people, but, as I said, they were jus counsellors (not their fault) and I think I need to get to the root cause of my "crutch".

Good luck with your program!
