gross eating habit ?

I recently found out that a woman who works in a different department to me,but who i have worked with jointly on some cases, had a bypass a few years ago. I was shocked when she told me as i never would have guessed that she had ever been as overweight as she had or that she has had the op.
What was interesting is that she still has the same problem that i have, in that my brain still thinks i can stuff my face and i often eat one mouthful too many and end up in pain.
She told me that to deal with this, when she is chewing the fateful mouthful, that as the previous one hits her pouch and starts to cause discomfort she then spits out the mouthful of food she is chewing to avoid overdoing it.
I've thought about this for a couple of weeks and tonight i took her advice and got rid of the last mouthful of pizza i was eating (at home i hasten to add !) Hubby was totally grossed out and even when i explained why i had done it he was still deeply unimpressed lol !!
The thing is, as gross and vile as it was, it worked and i didn't overdo it and feel poorly as i have done in the past.
I feel a bit ashamed about it though - does anyone else ever do this ?:ashamed0005:

I know when I'm on the verge of over-eating as my nose starts to run. Apparently this is not uncommon in bypassers, it's something to do with triggering the vagal nerve.

Hiya, not had my op yet, but if it worked & prevented you from being in pain for hours afterwards, who cares? Not me, & neither should your hubby...believe me I'm going to remember that & if I need to spit out a mouthful of chewed up food I was trying to cram in, I would be as ladylike as poss but I'd still do it! It's little tips like this we all want to know about!

You spit away girl!!!

Just tell him you're a good girl and you spit and don't swallow :) If that don't shut him up nothing will xxx

If that is what makes you stick to it so what. Just get yourself a spitoon..... LOL

I can remember early on licking a chip and feeling guilty.

I used to do this on my many diets with a snickers bar, i'd want a taste, take a bite have a bit of a chew, then put in in a hanky and throw it away, completely satisfying..lolololol

jayne, ive had to do this a couple of times. Its because I eat too fast and as you described it, I have the next mouthful in my mouth before the previous mouthful has hit my pouch. I can sense when one more bite is going to be too much.

If I slow down my eating Im fine.

I eat way too fast, tonight was 1/2 jacket spud with cheese n beans and i ate it all (skin n all) but 10 minutes after i wished i'd left a couple of chews out! Am going to have to rethink my wolfing habit :)

I'm amazed that he was grossed out over this. Would he rather you put your head down the toilet and vomit the last bit back up? Honestly, spitting the last mouthful of food up is not gross - I've done it before when I've swallowed a hair or it tasted bad. The other alternative is to keep the mouthful of food in your mouth and go to the toilet and spit it out or keep a tissue by your side and make out you are wiping your mouth and move the food from your mouth onto the tissue. If it stops you being in pain then I would say go ahead and do it (obviously not in a restaurant though.

I have to confess here that I do it with meat. Even though I had a defill on my band I still can't get any type of meat down. Soooo I chew it and chew it to get all the juices out (too much info lol) and then dispose of it in a serviette. y hubby is'nt freaked by it cos he says at least I'm getting something out of it haha xx

I did it earlier when we had a curry! The naan bread was so delicious but I knew I'd end up paying the price if I ate it so I just chewed it and spat it out :D

Julie, you had me almost spitting out my water when I read your comments!! :8855:

Haha I have to say that I am a bit like Gill, when Im getting full my nose tingles lol its a funny feeling, cool to know what it is.
As for the spitting out, I dont do it often but have done it a few times at home, my pouch usually tells me well in advance that its getting full but on those few occassions it didnt and I was chewing a mouthful of food when the fullness kicked in, my only choice being to spit out the mouthful so that I dont be sick. Its just a part of my new life and hubby doesnt bat an eyelid.
You do what you need to and ignore hubby and anyone else!
Steph xx
