:wave_cry:Just bought one (£35-argos) but did not come with cookbook/handy hints:cry:

....today I have googled & done tasty baked potatoes/quiche/pizza....

BUT looking for some hints/tips on how best to use a halogen oven...

or can anyone recommend a good book???

Hi Julie

Never heard of them so had a nosey, they look really good, i typed in halogen oven on argos and brought up cook books and recepie books for sale, have a look xxx

Get a book from ebay or amazon.I have done all sorts in mine, roast potatoes, roast chicken, pork, bread, scones, muffins etc.In fact everything you cook in an ordinary oven.Less fuel cooks about the same time but all fats drip away. The bread was lovely btw!Maz x

Hi Poppet!

I have never used one myself so cant recommend a book but I did a quick google serach on halogen oven recipies and a fair few came up.

Happy halogen cooking! x

My mum has one and it's amazing! The food comes out really moist and because you can raise things up on a platform all the excess fat gets drained away. Plus things get done quicker and cheaper than using a regular oven!

Really recommend The Halogen Oven Cookbook by Maryanne Madden - lots of recipes like fish pies, chillis, stews and casseroles :)

I'm currently trying to decide whether to get one myself (a small 7l one) or get a slow cooker instead. Decisions! :)

We got one of these yesterday from makro, it was only £14.99+vat (i think) for a 7l one.

Really looking forward to testing some recipes out when im on solids

LOL! Funny you should say that, but I'm just back from Makro as the proud owner of a 7l halogen oven :D

I think we're starting a trend here :p

My mum bought hers when she was away with my stepdad in the trailer tent and realised she'd forgotten to pack the electric frying pan which they normally use *lol* But they've got a big 12l one so a bit too big for just a weekend away though a definite item to take away on big holidays :)

Looking up some great recipes and can't wait to get home and get cracking - when I can eat more solid food, of course

I got the large one too from Ideal World £59 with all the extras and a cookbook. The ring spacer thing is essential for bread and cake making.

I got one a few weeks ago and I love it. I got one of the massive ones that you can also make chips in. The chips are to die for (not that I eat many lol).
I have to say that it was pretty expensive but it was specifically the chip making bit I wanted. The downside of having the one with the tumbler is that you cant cook stews directly in the glass bowl, you have to cook them in a caserole dish on the lower trivet. It cooks brilliantly though and I am not in the least unhappy with it. I have used it almost every day since I got it. The baked potatoes are gorgeous, nice and fluffy with a really nice proper baked skin.
They heat up instantly and this is what makes it cheaper to cook with than a conventional oven.
I have to say that it is extremely noisy and having an open plan house I find this a bit annoying at times but well worth it.
I love it and I also love my 'cheap' slow cooker from Tesco. I use that when I dont use the halogen cooker because I love stews and caseroles.
Cant wait to read those recipes later.
