Hi Harriet, one of our members posted a link to an article on here a week or so ago and there was some comments made.
One of the things that concerned me (cos I know what I'm like!) is that the endobarrier sleeve is a temporary measure its not permanent like the bypass or gastric sleeve. What happens after you have it removed - its not unheard of for people to lose say 10 stone through one means or another and then gradually put it on again. Is it down to willpower or do you get any psycological or emotional support - eg cognitive behaviour therapy or counselling to go along with the sleeve to help with things like comfort eating, depression, bad habits, addictions?
Are lifestyle changes encouraged before the procedure - eg do you have to lose a little weight, comit to exercise, etc as you do before you have gastric surgery - although if its a trial then they may not be as stringent about that at this stage! Obviously if you can do this while you have the sleeve inserted, then you've a better chance of keeping the weight off when its gone I guess!
Is your food/drink intake restricted at all - or can you eat larger/normal portions? Can you have alcohol?
Do you have any dumping or frothing; say if you eat sweet/fatty foods?
Have they said if it will aid/resolve diabetes and other comorbidities such as sleep apnea, HBP, etc? Do you have any of these?
I'd be very interested in hearing about your progress if you don't mind posting every now and again. I think you're the first we've heard who have had this procedure so I'm sure there will be a lot of interesting questions coming your way....
Thanks for posting.
