Have you ever experienced real hunger . . .?

about 6 months post op used to be an aching where my new pouch is and that would only be if I hadn't eaten all day and it had been a while since I'd drunk. Now at 2 yrs post op ( 2yrs to the day tomorrow to be precise) I rarely feel hungry and like today had breakfast at 7 and have just had half a ham and cucumber sandwich not because I was hungry but because hubby had it ready for me when I got in from uni. other days I can get an odd sensation in my pouch which goes when I eat. It's hard to describe what that sensation is; its a cross between an ache and a rumble but quite high up not low down like pre op. You will get to know your new pouch and its signals and noises and will work out what your body is trying to tell you.

i get hungry if i go too long between meals to the point where i feel sick but then get the shakes as im running on empty. I have a very active job as wel as doing lots of exercise so its a case of eating little and often for me. i eat an assortment of things but cheese, crackers and fruit is one of my favs.

Are you still bound by the protein first rule . . . I understood that we should aim to eat chicken and steak first then carbs.

Cheese is a wonderful source of protein (and I love Wensleydale with cranberries mmmmmmm) but this is very fattening – something about the eat ratio ‘protein in’ -v- ‘fat content’ . . .

Were you in an active job pre op or could you start doing an active job because of the op ?

You have done ever so well with 158lb loss and I enjoy reading your posts and advice. xx

Bread is a sticking point for me and I can still only eat a limited amount of it. 1 slice os thick bread and have been able to eat 2 small thin slices of greggs bloomer with ham and cucumber.

As for advice make the most of the first 6 months and get into a habit of making good food choices as when the automatic weight loss stops its even harder to break the cycle and listen to your body. My weight loss has stayed the same for 18months now and have enjoyed the eating whatever in moderation but I now need to kick myself up the proverbial and join a slimming club to get rid of those last 3/4 stone. The main thing is though I ma now mobile and pursuing my life long ambition and training to be a teacher.

always had an active job i do short break care for children with disabilities so lots of direct play work etc. but i always used to go to the gym and swimming at my heaviest as well. i was lucky as i didnt have any co morbidities and was healthy and my mobility wasn't effected because of my weight.

im still goverened by the protien first rule but when ive gone past it i need a good balance of carbs and protien to rebalance my energy levels. i dont like the low fat cheeses so just have half a portion of regular cheese and seem ok with that.

Good question...

Pre op I was always "starving". If Im honest though I probably never felt true hunger - I just had an appetite that I couldnt satisfy. I could eat a 3 course meal and then be looking for something else to eat within the hour.

Now I tend to eat by the clock rather than by hunger. On a work day this is easy, have breakfast, go to work, have a mid morning snack of fruit, have lunch, have a mid afternoon snack of fruit if I fancy it, and then tea when I get home. If my routine is broken though then I can go for hours without thinking about food - a bit like Terri's day today.

have you decided which slimming club to join Terri? I have joined WW at Hollyfield school on Tuesday evenings at 6.30pm. Feel free to come and join me.

I feel sick when I am hungry, and then sicker when I have eaten. I get an empty feeling, like when you have burpy wind which makes me feel sick.
I wish I didn't have to bother eating at all at the moment but of course I do because I'm a glutton and that's how I got into this mess in the first place.
This morning I had a small bowl of warm cornflakes at about 9 with skimmed milk, (semi or full cream milk tastes disgusting to me) then I felt full and sick for ages after them. Later at about 2pm I had a tin of squeezed dry tuna and some lettuice and a small, thin slice of hovis. After eating that I felt so full it was unbelievable and I have only just stopped rubbing my ribs to ease the discomfort. I didn't think I was overeating and didn't expect to be so full for quite so long. I will eat again at about 8 tonight. I have a tin of weight watchers lentil soup which I am looking forward to. I won't be having anything with it though and think that the tin of tuna at lunchtime was probably enough protein.
I really love matzos with low fat cheese spread on them and if I cant sleep because of the hungry/sick feeling I have half of one and that does the trick.
Am I eating enough?
