Hi everyone
Been on a weight rollercoaster since I got depression in 1997 due to multiple family bereavements which happened over 15 weeks.
My weight went from about 19 stone (but really fit) to what I am now 32 stone 9lbs since then. Health has gotten steadily worse, and was diagnosed diabetic in 2001.
Got referred to a diabetic specialist in 2012 who originally put in for funding for a gastric band for me. I got the funding but declined to go any further as at the time I was a carer for my Mum and I couldn't leave her on her own at all since her dementia was so severe. No one would help me (social workers etc) so in the end it got so bad I had to ask to put my mum in a care home. They did.
In the meantime I went back to continue my weight loss journey. My specialist wrote off again asking the surgeon to see me as he knew we had the funding. They wrote back saying I had to be reassessed again. This time I got refused and got told to do 2 years (note, I wasn't allowed any leeway at all even though some say 6 months is ok) weight loss management.
When I first went for funding I was with the care trusts programme with WW. They took the decision to cancel it in the area. I can't go to classes as I can't walk and although I have a wheelchair, my neuropathy is so bad I can't self propell. Anyway. I've decided I'm going to go privately now to save all this to-ing and fro-ing all the time because I'm 41 now and don't want to wait any longer than I have to.
Anyway, I'll get to reading the forum now as there seems to be so much info here and hopefully I can start my journey asap and start getting out and about again.
