This is such a fantastic community that I feel a little weird posting this! Kind of like I'm intruding (hope not)

I'm Rose, I'm waiting to have a Gastric Bypass at The Imperial Weight Loss Center. Anyone from there? Would love to hear from others.

I do have one question, I have met with the surgeon, dietitian and the anesthetisation. I have yet to meet with the Psychiatrist and I'm very nervous she'll deem me not fit for some reason (I do suffer from depression due to childhood abuse). What can I say to her to convince her that I'm capable of dealing with the surgery? I have read extensively and I have met with ladies and a gentleman who had had the surgery so I know what I'm getting myself into.

Any words of wisdom? :flirt2:

First of all welcome!!

you should not be afraid posting here. this vorym is very friendly and welcoming :)

My suggestion is Just to be honest. Other than that sorry but i cant help much. I have never seen one of them. But i am sure other people will help you more :)

Hello Roselie
like Llora says never be afraid to ask any questions as we all on here at some point have tied ourselves in knots over questions that concern us.once you ask and then get loads of replies it can make you feel so much better
same advise as above just be honest and upfront and take it from there thats all you can/should do
good luck keep us posted

Hi Rosalie,

First, welcome to the group!

You've picked a *fantastic* provider in Imperial a Weight Loss Centre at St Mary's. I had RNY-bypass surgery with them on April 16th this year. I've lost over 6 stones so far.

There's a few ladies on here who also have used Imperial.

To be honest, their admin isn't the best, but their surgical experience and post-op procedures are up there with the very best. There's a reason why they're awarded a rare International Centre of Excellence for bariatric surgery - they're bloody good at it.

You'll most likely see Dr Sam Scholtz, she's the main psychiatrist in the wls team. She's very straight forward and down to earth. She asked me what my goals are, what weight I think it's realistic for me to achieve, she wanted to be certain that I understand the surgery is just a tool and I need to do the hard work myself.

We discussed my childhood and reasons for over-eating and how I've worked to overcome those.

Just be open and honest with her; she's not trying to catch you out, but she makes a recommendation for your surgery at the MDT meeting, so she has to be reasonably certain that you can handle the process.

Wishing you the best of luck. x

Can't offer any advice as I didn't have to jump through hoops as I self funded, just wanted to say hello and welcome x

Hello and welcome. I had to see the psychiatrist and it turned out to be a really positive experience - although I cried buckets. So be honest and it will turn out fine.

Hi rosalie, welcome dont worry about asking questions on here, its a fantastic forum. I agree as above, be honest, talk about how you feel and good luck

Thank you so much for this informative reply Dave, I really appreciate it. Can I ask who was your surgeon and how long you stayed on the waiting list? Sorry for asking too many questions.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome ?

Glad to be of help!

My surgeon is Mr Krishna Moorthy. I was approved for surgery by the MDT on March 27th, I had surgery on April 16th.

My original referral by my GP was August 2013, my first appointment at Imperial was December 2013, I saw the psychiatrist on March 6th 1014.

August to April - 8 months end to end, or 4 months under Imperial. For NHS treatment, it was pretty quick. (I think!)

I hope my process goes as smoothly as yours did! My appointment with the psychiatrist is on 1/9/14 to say I'm freaking out is an understatement! Thank you Dave :)
