Hi,

I've been a lurker for a while but this site really helped on my research when deciding what to do.

I was convinced a sleeve was the way forward for me, but after meeting my consultant, I am booked in to have a bypass on 15th March at St Richard's, Chichester.

I know this is the right thing, but I know it is going to be hard and sore, but I need to be able to start living again and doing things with my family.

Looking forward to getting to know you all xx

Hello and welcome
I think the choice of surgery is a very personal thing, but I had a bypass five months ago and my only regret is that I didn't have it sooner. The operation itself was much easier than I thought, I had hardly any pain and no bad side effects apart from tiredness for a couple of weeks. I'm already almost 6 stone lighter and looking at a much brighter future.
Good luck!

Hi and welcome it is hard to chose did your consultant give u reasons why you should have a bypass instead of a sleeve? Xx

Hello newbie!

Hello and welcome I'm hoping for a bypass I've done so much research before I even started the NHS journey I'm still in the same Mind although I've found the duodenal switch but I don't think I'm big enough for that

Hi Jacala73.

I was wondering if you would mind telling me a little bit about your experiences at St Richards so far?
I was referred last June, and have only just received a letter to an all day appointment on the 18th March. I am quite nervous, and really don't know what to expect. Every hospital seems to have a different process.

Ps, Good luck for your op on the 18th :)

Hi Gemma,

I'm a private patient rather that NHS so I had an appointment just with the consultant to go through everything really and I could ask him anything.

Then when I decided I was going for it, I had my pre op three weeks before which was two weeks ago. I saw a specialist nurse and a dietician. There is a special bariatric outpatients where all the chairs and doorways are bigger, they treated me with such kindness and respect I felt really comfortable.

I've just finished my first week of the milk diet and have surgery next Tuesday.

I think the all day appointments are so you can see the consultant, nurse and dietician all on one day so they decide what's best for you and then you'll get a date and it goes from there.

So far I have nothing but praise for them.

Good luck
