Hi everybody, I have just found this forum and am amazed at the wealth of information and knowledge on here!
I am only in the research stage at the moment as its only just been suggested to me. I am in the tamoxifen prevention trial through the genesis centre in wythenshaw and recently met with the oncologist to discuss my risks. I was amazed when he suggested a gastric band to reduce my bmi down from 46! Especially since he has just co wrote a 2 day diet book,
On his suggestion i am to see my doctor for a referral for bariatric surgery to reduce my considerable cancer risks.
Now I don't want to be too pessimistic but has anyone here ever been accepted for nhs funding on such grounds?

I'm sorry that so far nobody has gotten back to you. I'm afraid I'm not much help either - I had a sleeve in CZ (private funding). But I hope you'll find the information you're looking for in this forum. Good luck!

Hi Sally, Funding varies from area to area, in my area you need a BMI of 50 even with co-morbidities. I would have thought that a letter from your oncologist would carry some weight.
My surgery was privately funded so I haven't been through the funding process but I'm sure someone else on here will be able to give you more definitive advice.

Hiya, I have seen my gp and been referred to specialist weight management service but now think I have to be part of the program for two years before moving up to the next level where surgery could be considered. But letters from oncologist will definatelye sent!
