Help after op?

Hi all. Hope you all well today!

Just wondered what the main things people needed help with after bypass in the first wk or 2.

Baically I live alone and even though I can stay with my mum after op, bein honest, I don't want to! Her and my sister are at each others throats the WHOLE TIME I can't stand it. I can just about put up with spending a few hrs there. If I'm staying there and feeling emotional already it'll make me go crazy lol

I've had plenty of ops in the past so know what to expect from anaesthetic etc but wondered if there anything you all really struggled with!

I did everything for my self from day one apart from watering my plants with a watering can that took 5 days

Hi Hun
When you come out of hospital you will be more or less self sufficient. I expect they will warn you about heavy lifting, gardening and alike - mainly common sense. I would say your family and friends should visit you as much as possible - a pain in the arse I know but you will go stir crazy otherwise (and may need some fresh bits from the shop) xx

It depends on whether your surgery is laparaoscopic or open.

I was open and i needed Mr PM to help me out of bed on my first night at home, saying that after asking him once i refused to ask a second time as in all fairness you control your movements better when your the one doing them...

I would say have someone there with you for the first few days at home just in case of any complications. If you get prepared beforehand with fluids in the house you should be fine....

Also if you must go for a wander outside, try and walk with a friend or just stick to your own back yard :)

Thanks x

It supposed to be keyhole but if things go wrong...we'll see! Think I might just ask the bf to stay with me a couple of days, I can stand being around him lmao

Ill ask my mother to dog sit though! One less thing to worry about!

You will deffo need a dog sitter and for more than a couple of days. The last thing you need is a pulling dog when your innards are healing...

He very good. Doesn't pull, doesn't even need to go on lead but it more to do with the fact that I live up 5 flights of stairs! Not going to want to do those 3 or 4 times a day!

I live on my own too. I've arranged for someone to walk my dog. Other than that I'll be managing on my own. I'm going to clean the flat thoroughly before I go into hospital so I don't have to do it when I get back.
Someone at my support group reccommended I get one of those V shaped pillows too. She said it helps either as back support or for resting your poorly stomach on.
I've got a neighbour who's going to take the bins out for me too. Oh and I've frozen enough pureed food to last me for a month.
