.... there is a mouse in my lounge! It looks like a field mouse to me and is very pretty but-is in my lounge ! Any ideas how I can get rid of it without poison? Been sitting here with a bowl ready to drop over it but it never gets close enough.
It's a stupid mouse-shouldn't it have run away ?

The last time I had to go mouse catching, I used a small blanket or towel, waited for him to run around and put it over him, scooped him up and took him down the road slightly to run away :)

I had the very same thing happen to me a few months ago (my cats brought it in), in the middle of the night, and the blimming thing was keeping me awake with its running around! I couldnt catch it either, so in the end i rested a blanket going from the floor, up to the window, and out onto the garden. I steered the mouse up it, and quickly closed the window behind. Sorted!

Apologies in advance for being sexist.... but in my house this is a man's job :D:D:D, along with spiders, drain clearing, garden slug removal, and other nasties ;)

Whoops... back to equal opportunities and political correctness as of now

well i have to admit one of my cats once brought three in the kitchen i just shut the door and waited for hubby to come home :) we have loads in our garden no cats now so they just stay around under the shed and the dogs don't bother about them at all :)once had a very large frog jump into kitchen closed the door again :)

Ahh yes.. frogs.... :D

We once had one jump in through the propped open cat flap, I was cooking and turned round to have it take a flying leap at me, needless to say I screamed the house down until I realised it was just a frog. :D

Second frog experience was my cat brought one up to us (alive) and drooling (the cat that is) in the middle of the night and deposited on the bed. Screaming on standby once again and my husband transported it back to the pond, by wearing it and that alone, thankfully he didn't turn the garden lights on to cover his blushes on the return journey :8855:

i remember years ago a bird somehow got stuck between the bricks in my kitchen wall and it was awful having to listen to it flapping about and couldn't even see it had to call my father in law for that my hubby was working far too late to stand that one :) he had to remove the vent and get it out poor thing didn't survive

Thanks folks. Will ditch the bowl and get a towel. The little deevil has gone quiet now-I
think he's having a kip. Just hope it'snot so he can stay up all night partying! I want him out before it's bedtime. I've watched too much I'm a Celebrity and am imagining him crawling over my head while I'm asleep ! May be that Helen is not such a wimp after all ...

make sure you shake all your slippers and shoes out in the morning if you don't find him he may be all snuggled up in one :) on that note i'm off to bed xx

EEk ! Thanks for that Angie. Sleep well ( I'm sure you will better than me lol !)

Unless it is one of the rare types of mice there is usually more than one, don't panic, it's really common. It will be very hard to catch a mouse individually without a device, try some humane traps from your local diy shop. They are really attracted to sweet stuff like chocolate and peanut butter. If manage to catch it release it somewhere away from people. If you think the mouse could be injured, give your local wildlife rescue a call. They will give you more advice and can rehabilitate if necessary. Hope this helps x

Ooooh poor you. I am not afraid of most things but mice - get me out if here! There was one down in our house in France last year. 3 ladies together we left the men at home! I put sticky board traps down & went out that night. When we came back one was on the board. I was about to pick it up with rubber gloves broom & dustpan & it jumped off. Stop reading if you are squeamish - I was so shocked & petrified I jumped on the broom & ended up squashing the mouse. I was 22 1/2 stone pre op!! Not sure I'd have the same effect today 8 1/2 stones lighter??!!

Eeeek, good luck! Hope you can take it out of the house without hurting it...

Yup BD is right, you'd be surprised how high they can jump!

Our cats bring in mice and birds (mostly alive so they can play) with the occasional squirrel  Birds are presents for us, we pat the kitties on the head, thank them and shoo the birds out by opening all the windows, they fly out. Mice are for them to play with. The cats growl if we try to take it from them and it's tricky, I leave it to my husband and go hide upstairs hehe :) In out household the problem is kicking the cats out so we can rescue the mice. If by any chance a mouse comes in the house, we don't need to worry, the cats will get it... Circle of life, survival of the fittest, natural selection etc etc etc :( xxx

The best way to catch a mouse, hamster or gerbil that is loose in the house is this

1. Get a bucket or steep sided deep bowl
2. Put some kind of ramp up to the rim (on the outside of the bucket) a piece of wood will do.
3. Put some food in the bottom of the bucket eg biscuit, peanut butter etc (mice don't do cheese)
4. Leave the bucket and wait.
If you're lucky the small furry will go up the ramp, drop in the bucket for the food and they can't get out. Problem sorted

I'm getting good at rescuing animals. We had a Magpie fall down the chimney a couple of months ago and had to take the gas fire out to get to it. Chucked a blanket over the whole of the fire place and managed to catch it with out making a mess of the living room.
Took it out side and released it and it flew off, without a kiss my behind or anything and then it cost me £50 to have the fire refitted :sigh:

we used to keep chipmonks a gfew years ago and we went to visit in laws when we came back some lovely person had opened the cage in the back garden let them all out :( but it was very funny watching my hubby run around the garden and next doors with a kids fishing net trying to catch them :) we got some back but one drowned in a bucket in greenhouse and rest went missing :(
