Went to see my GP in January my BMI at the time being 41 he referred me to local hospital for WLS but also said worth trying to lose weight whilst waiting to show my commitment. I went to hospital group seminar this week my BMI is now 37 I am classed as stage 1 hypertensive but don't take any medications for it I had an accident a few years ago which Dr at the time said would inevitably leave me with arthritis in the joint due to the kind of repair is had again I don't really take any drugs for this so I feel like my effort to lose weight in last four months might have scuppered my chances shoulda stayed fatter and started losing weight after being measured at hospital I'm gutted!!! Sorry to ramble on but will my medical history/status count as co-morbidities? Thanx all in advance for reading ?
I should imagine lollyowen you qualify with the hypertention and bmi, at least that's what the nhs website says - am in the same boat and have been referred, waiting to get an appointment. some people say the weight loss shows your commitment to stick with the difficult diet after surgery but for some of us we have reached a point where the weight is no longer coming off no matter how much we try hence the need for surgery - i find it confusing...
It's been a while, how has the situation progressed?
I've got appointment with bariatric nurse and dietician on 9th July I'm told I will be set a weight loss target then given three months to achieve and attend tier 3 sessions if I go to all sessions and reach target at three month review my case is then put to mdt meeting where they decide if I can be added to waiting list or turned down for surgery will be gutted if I get turned down after all ? Xx

I am in the process of going to the drs for a referral for wls. My bmi is 41.Iv been doing slimming world since 2011 I have lost a stone. Its soul destroying.
Hi lolly , ive got a history of low level high bp and a bmi of 36 so I am borderline and ive been referred too I start my tier 3 on August 17th and im nervous too and very keen to know the process .... I hope you get good news soon and keep us updated on your progress it'll be great to follow someone at the same stage as me x
Hope u ladies get sorted soon, thought I'd drop u a line as your local to me, I'm from durham. Banded privately but my bmi was around 36 too when I started x
Well quick ish update I had my appointment and was told at that moment in time I didn't meet NICE criteria for surgery due to me losing weight whilst waiting for referral but..... the bariatric nurse said she would try and fight my corner because I did meet criteria due to BMI of 41 at time of referral, moral of story don't try to kickstart weight loss before being assessed by hospital my GP told me to show willing and try to lose weight to show my commitment which could backfire coz the nurse said in effect I would need to put weight back on and be referred to them all over again if I'm unsuccessful at upcoming MDT meeting. MDT has taken place and they haven't sent me back to GP but to a dietician programme so think I'm still in with a chance gotta go in September for first meeting so will be keeping everything crossed
