:cry:I have just been to the doctors today for joint pain, He said we give Ibuprofen for that, then he said to me, a mere mortal, Can you take them with your op, Did'nt know what to say so said i think so, Can i ask you guys, what you think before i take any? Your better than any doc. xx:8855::8855:

I think it's a no no-but he should know! There's a risk of ulcers with anti inflams. BUT- ring your surgical team, and they will advise you-and your GP!!
Hope you feel more comfortable soon.

Have you had a band or bypass hun?

If its bypass then NSAIDS (which includes ibuprofen) are not recommended, but are thought to be safe in the short term as long as you are taking your fast tab.

I would stil get the OK from your team though before taking them, to be on the safe side. x

I was told no Ibuprofen,Diclofenac,Asprin,Anadin,Nurofen. The only pain relief you can have will be paracetamol or paracetamol and codeine.Heat and Tiger Balm work very well on my arthritic hip.Have a bath then hold a heat pack on the painful area and then apply the Tiger Balm.It is absorbed with the heat.Maz x

Sam and B&B are right
Its not a good idea to take them before you check with your team.
Sometimes the benefits out weigh the problems that NSAIDS cause but your team will know if thats the case

I take ibuprofen & paracetamol for arthritic & fibromyalgia pain however pre-op I was also taking medication for IBS, so needed another with it to protect my stomach because of the ibruprofen. Theses days I still take the IBS meds & the protective med has changed to Omeprazole incase I need to take the ibuprofen & paracetamol, which I have hardly had to take since my bypass. If I do now it is as an after thought when the pain has started rather than a regular preventative & top up if it was bad. I was never mad with my pain relaid prefering even then to only take the minimum dose of 2lots a day saving the remaining 2 doses allowed each day for if I had a really bad day & then only if I really couldn't manage until I would normally take my 2nd dose rather than taking the extra doses. I take what I have to with the advise of my team & GP & as I say use the pain relaid as little as I can manage.
