Hi all,

i dont want to scare anyone or put anyone off.

i had weight loss surgery a few years back, firstly they attempted a Gastric bypass huhh huhhh, due to the incompetence of my surgeon my op was aborted half way through, months later i had a biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS), this surgery seemed to be a sucess? was it tho? Right in addition after both pre op diets i lost aprox 5 stone:), after Gastric bypass still having to do post op diet i lost an additional 2 stone:) then after the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, i lost a further3 stone in 5 -6 weeks in total i had lost a remarkable 10 stone:D, then disaster struk, i was taken into hospital sffering from Septicemia:eek:, since the illness which was just over 3 years ago i have not lost 1lb, in fact i have had a slight weight gain:sigh:. After being aproached by a legal firm i listened to their advice and started proceedings, my legal advisors arranged for me to go see a top London gastric surgeon/ specialist on my visit we had a chat about things since surgery and spoke of my weight loss, how heavy i was and how heavy i am, and gave me a general MOT, he then pointed out that the surgery i had done, the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch if it had been done correctly would of resulted in me losing at least another 10 stone??
i cant tell you how dissapointed i was to hear this.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties :( Was this NHS or private? So are you still down 10 stone? I hope you get things sorted and I assume you will have more revisional surgery to put things right at some stage? Good luck :)

Why do they think the BDDS failed big man??

The specialist I was sent to see said that with my intestine being set to what they set it at it was impossible for me not to have lost at least another 10 stone, since the actual diversion I had only actually lost 3 stone. Where I should of lost at least 13 stone, on top of what I had lost on pre op diets and recovery after 1st botched op, totalling 20 stone loss.

I am 9 stone down now after gaining 1 stone, my surgery was botched by the NHS so if I do have the reversal which has been mentioned then I will be going private, dependant on the NHS funding it of course but that will all be decided in court tbh, reversal and new op is what's Bering mooted, I thing I am a long long way off being at my target weight, that's if I ever will be.

It has to be said

How many calories are you eating a day, and what is a typical days menu.

Regardless of which diet is flavour of the month and surgery, I have concluded what I put in my mouth is directly related to my weight, and the size of my backside.

Regardless of who you sue the pants off, we are all still responsible for what we put into our mouths.

I can only assume that you really have been on a 1000 calorie a day, low fat, low sugar diet and have been getting the recommended exercise of 30 mins 5 times a week...... And have put ON a stone?

It sounds like you have had a terribly tough time so I hope you get things sorted soon.

As thinnerjemima says we are all responsible for what we consume, but thankfully, for those of us who have been unable to manage that for whatever reasons, the NHS has been there to provide a possible solution via weight loss surgery. That said, the expectation is that they will get it right and that they will performs their surgery competently and safely.

If it's not worked for you, and it's as a result of incompetence, then you have every right to expect it to be put right.

my diet has been pretty good tbf even tho i had NO guidance from the hospital where i had my surgery done, the (bad) advice i had been given pre and post op was when they explained how my surgery would, in their words, 'give me the best of both worlds'?, 'i would be able to eat what i want when i want and as long as i walked it off the next day (30 minute walk) then i would still lose weight', as my intestine would not allow my body to absorb all the fat etc, tbh it wasnt what i wanted to hear from a surgeons assistant lead, i wanted surgery to help me lose the weight that i had struggled to lose over many years of trying and wanted help in learning what to eat and when, tho they told me this i still managed to keep a to a strict diet very very little fat and plenty of greens. i have been accused of not doing my diet properly, eeerrrmmm excuse me, after major stomach surgery it is impossible not to do a diet, i lost 3 stone in 6 weeks so how could i not be dieting? then again thats one of many things that the courts will decide, even the specialist said that it seems that the hospital where i had my surgery seem to be a little confused as to what they wre saying as it is clear that the weight was lost so how could i have not been dieting????, after my septicemea i visited the hospital for a follow up, this was in 2009 one month after, i was never contacted by the hospital again as two doctors gave me, verbally, two different time scales as to when i would next be seen. I was never advised by the dietician and I was also told pre op that I would more than likely need to be seen by some other kind of support councellor as my diet and life style was about to be changed forever, this never happened. i have been in touch with a fella that was in at the same time as me in 2009, he too said basically it was out, and tarar, he never had 1 follow up appointment either. I did tho miss a follow up appointment at the hospital in the november, but unfortunetly as i was lyning in their HDU unit , with 6 tubes piped into me a bum bag and a catheter at that time, so i found it impossible to get over to the consultants office for the appointment.
