Hi all

New Member
I'm new to this and was wandering if anyone can help me, I was refered to the weight management programme at the Manor June 09 where I was seen by Dr Hartland and his team, I was trialed on three different medications to help me loose weight but none did the trick. The begining of the year I had to have some surgery for a different problem but my consultant was Mr Khan, who told me surgery was the way forward as it was the weight that was the major factor causing the problem, 30 March 2010 was my final appointment with Dr Hartland where he told me that he was refering me to the PCT. Up to date I have not heard a thing, does anyone know how long it takes to get an answer from the PCT??:sigh:

Hi Yatesy and welcome

There are many of us on here from walsall manor, some pre op and some post op. It does appear that if you live within the walsall PCT area there are more hoops to jump through to get you the surgery than if you live out of area.

Also the admin at Walsall leaves a lot to be desired at times. That, along with the move to their new building means that things are not moving quickly at the manor at present.

Best advice we can give is to keep phoning and chasing.

Good luck and hope you dont have to wait too long for your answers. x

HI Yatesy and a big welcome to the site.
:welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome:

I'm sorry I'm not able to answer your questions as Im not in your area and each PCT is different. Best wishes with your journey though!

Thank you, have not contacted anybody yet so I might start with Ana on Tuesday as I found out the letter with her details on the other day, I understand about the admin thing as I had to call them Dec as they had lost me somewhere in the system.

Hi Yatesy,
I too live in Walsall and have come a similar route to you I think, as I had surgery to repair a hernia June 2009 with Mr Khan and he then referred me onto weight management etc.
When I last saw Dr Hartland in early April, he started the process for applying for funding for surgery. I got a letter in the third week of May to say my funding had been approved. My GP also told me that my funding had been approved.
I have a surgery date for 13th October, fingers crossed.
I saw Mr Khan last Friday and he is sending me for a CT scan now before he confirms my surgery, as I've gone a developed another hernia right where he would be making the incision.:sigh:
The person who spoke to me at the Manor about funding and booking 2 pre op appointments was Tracey Lowe, I just asked for her via the main switchboard.
I got this nugget of info (and much more) from the members of the Walsall support group.
I hope that helps a bit.

Hi Yatesy. I'm with Sam, the thing with the Manor is they are pants with admin, so i'd give Tracy Lowe a ring and ask if you have your funding agreed yet!

Good luck and i hope we see you at the Walsall Manor Support Group sometime....xx

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, it seems that I may have been lost in the system again as it has been 5 months since my last appointment and still no letter, now I have a name that I can contact tomorrow and hopefully get some answers:thankyou:

Disappointed:mad:

Have found out today via talking to the Walsall pct that no letter has been sent to them from dr heartland, a very helpful lady is now trying to find out why no letter has been done, I am so frustrated it is beyond belief

OMG just phoned walsall pct today as I still had not heard anything only for them to call me back to tell me a letter has gone to Tracey Lowe on the 29th sept saying funding has been agreed, after all the upset that I have had the last couple of months it came as a pleasant surprise, just got to wait for my letter now but at least I have been granted funding

im in need of some info too my gp refered me to this specialist weight managment programme and i have received a letter to say referal has been received and i have to wait for an appointment to start. i believe its a 24 weeks programme ..well thats whats on this letter but does not tell me anything else and ireally am anxious to find out more and weather this leads to surgery?????

Hi tinkerboom well i finshed my 6 month weight programme 6 weeks ago and Dr Heartland said he was going to refer me to the weight surgery team well its been 6 long weeks and still not heard anything i rang Dr Heartland's Sec who didnt really tell me anything so hopefully it will lead to surgery some day but not holding my breath xx

Hi there buttery thanks for your reply, no one has explained anything to me regarding this weight management programme at all so i dont even no what to expect, communication is very bad indeed. All i know is that im on level 4 and thats it , could you explaint to me what this programme entailed please thanks

Hi there yeah is it at the Jhoots Centre in Darlaston that you have got to attend? Basically you go on the first day and you see a nurse a dietician a phyisical tranier and you get weighed and they talk you threw the programme and then you every 2 weeks to a group meeting with other people and then once a month you see Dr Heartland, if i am honest with you they didnt really tell me anything that i didnt really no i have tried everything there possible is out there to loose weight and surgery is my last straw but the way things are at the manor at the moment i am not holding much hope xx

ohhhhhhhhh i see only this letter says its a one-one programme ,they have told me that im level 4 what ever that means lol have you any idea

I am not sure what level 4 means perhaps you have not got to do the 6 month weight managment course then i no everyone is different you will have to let me no if you hear anything else, i am going to ring the manor again tomorrow myself to see where i am xx
