Hi everyone
All very new to this !! I've been accepted on the NHS for funding for wls, I've spoken with the surgeon who is happy to go ahead after I complete a tier 3 programme with my dietitian, I'm totally confused by it all, I haven't had any hints or clues from the dietitian and I've been seeing her for a year, ive seen her twice since being accepted for funding, I just want to know what the criteria is here in Leicester as it seems to vary from city to city ,
Much love people xxx

Hello and welcome!

I'm just down the M69 from you in Coventry. You are spot on, things vary from city to city.

I've done a quick google but I can't find any info but if you've seen the surgeon and they're happy to go ahead, surely you must meet the criteria?

Good luck on your journey :D

Hi thanks for the reply, I feel a bit like I'm having 2 different conversations with my dietitian, she's saying perhaps I don't need the surgery whereas the surgeon she works for has accepted me , the surgeon says in his letter that I've been given leaflets, when I haven't, I've had no dietary advice unless you count get a smaller plate , the surgeon said I have to complete a tier 3 program I have absolutely no idea what that involves here ???? Absolutely dumbfounded

Oh dear!

Tier 3 is the specialist weight management stage, ie seeing the dietician and losing any weight targets they set you.

Its one of the many hoops to jump througb and can take as long as 12 months (varies though).

It sounds like the surgeon thinks you've been to some sort of surgical options process but you obviously haven't.

Don't let the dietician talk you out of surgery, if that is what you want.

I definitely want and need the surgery, I'm seeing the dietitian in the morning so I'll insist on the leaflets and the targets x

Hi Maria

I have just started on what I think is the tier 3 programme in Leicester. I think I have to show a change in my eating habits and lose some weight before being put forward to surgery but it is all rather confusing as the info on a questionnaire they sent me said I would be with the service for 12 months but the dietitian says 6 months. From what the dietitian said, only a small proportion of people who attend get put through for surgery. A lot do not return after their first appointment!

How did it go with the dietitian? If you find out any more about how it all works in Leicester I would be very interested to know.

Hi dotty,
I found out every hospital is different on the tier 3 , which dietician are you seeing, I'm with a lady called Jane , anyway I had to show I could eat smaller portions, keep a food diary , eat 3 meals and 2 snacks , make an effort to eat a more healthy diet , I've been doing this for a year and the most I've lost is 6 kilos I am however seeing the surgeon at the end of July and I'm on the list !! All I can say is stick with it, the dieticians attitude changed once I "got it" and by that I mean more steamed vegetables and less roast potatoes are good for you , please feel free to drop me a line xx

Hi Maria.

I am so pleased to meet someone going through the Leicester system. I have my second dietition appointment shortly and hope to have lost about a stone. I've been eating healthily most of the time. Just the odd meal out when I've had what i fancy. Congratulations on getting on the list. I expect things will move quickly for you now. I am relieved to find you didn't have to lose too much weight to get to the next stage.
