That question is sort of like asking how long is a peice of string! I'm not a bander but can tell you that there is no definitive number of fills you will require after you have had the band fitted....it will depend on your personal circumstances & how you get on with each fill, and to when you personally hit the sweet spot! Technically, you aren't meat to lose much/any weight without a fill, although often people can lose a bit a weight waiting for their first fill...good luck!

Hi, I had my band fitted in January and have not had a fill yet (my choice). I'm booked in to have one this coming Thursday but am in two minds about it at the moment. My consultant suggested having my first fill when my weight had remained static for 3 weeks and that hasn't happened yet. (although I have had 3 weeks where I only lost half a pound per week). I have lost 33 pounds so far, 12 of which was pre-op. I'm sure it's different for everyone though. Good luck with everything x

Hi, I was banded three weeks ago and have lost just over a stone, my first fill is booked for 16th April but not sure if I should postpone it while I'm losing weight! Good luck with your op xx

No one would be able too tell you how many fills you may require it varies from person too person and size of band etc. Some people do lose weight before a fill * as some posts have proved* but others (like me) didnt lose anything until they had a fill, again this varies from person too person. Good luck 2 u xx

I was back at work 4 days after my banding. Came out of hospital on Tuesday and had two days rest then back at work on the Friday.

I was fine but I do have an office job. I didn't drive though - I got dropped off and picked up.

wow weeble. i am having surgery in belguim and leaving my car at airport so intend to drive home 2 days after the op because the flights at 6am and dont want to hassle anyone.. am i mad?

Oh I couldn't twist or cope with bumpy roads for best part of week after op so couldnt drive! I went back to work after ten days! ;) Jo xx

I had my band on the Saturday and just about managed to drive on the wednesday but I have an automatic car, bumps on the road is agony and I struggled to park because turning was sore! Also you are not legally able to drive for a few days after a gen anaesthetic so check your car insurance!

I had mine a month ago and have lost about a stone, have my first fill coming up on this Wednesday.

My consultant told me you can only drive once you are comfortable to do an emergency stop & to test this before driving if sore then not to drive as putting your life at risk & others. Hope this helps xx

Tbh I felt wiped out for 2 weeks, but thankfully I was off work for christmas so was able to take it easy, but everyone differs. I had told my boss about my op so she knew I couldn't lift anything for 6 weeks. I also waited 2 weeks before I drove, and I was so glad I did, within the first week of driving a dog ran out in front of me and I had to do an emergency stop (the first in 11 years). Hope this helps xx

I suppose it's feasible to drive but I wouldn't have wanted to. I'm not sure how safe it would be. Whilst I didn't have a lot of pain - everything hurt when I moved. The internal stitches pulled when I stretched. I think you might need to rethink that plan. How far are you from the airport?

airport 100 miles away. i fly in too early to expect my husband to come and get me. the roads are good but i am beginning to panic incase i am too sore:(

Hello Maura, welcome aboard hun xx
I would totally re-iterate what others have said regarding your journey home.

I think you are going to have to arrange for someone else to come collect you or book into a travelodge or something to stay overnight before driving.
Preferably the first one.
I ended up staying 2 days because I was very sore (probably because I was a lot bigger than most) and the drive home in the passenger seat was agony x

It's a lot better to be safe than put yourself in a painful and risky situation.
You have to put your health first and foremost.

yes guys, thanks for all your advice. really have taken everything on board and going to stay at a friends house and my hub will pick me up the next day.... thanks again xx
