I went for my first consultation 2 weeks ago and they ran the routine blood tests. Well when I saw my GP this morning he said that the hospital had sent him the results and that my red cell count was really high!! he said that this means that my blood is compensating for low oxygen levels, he thinks probably caused because I am a smoker! He said that having a high red cell count also increases the risk of blood clots as your blood is thicker, so he advised me to try and give up or at least cut down on the cigarettes before the operation. Just am worried that this high red cell count will make them cancel my operation due to the increased risk of clotting, and would like to know if anyone else had a high red cell count as any advice or info would be really appreciated xx
