Every insurance policy I've had will have a list of basic health questions which you have to answer 'no' to before they will give you insurance, any 'yes' need to be disclosed and will affect the price. A very common question is 'have you had surgery in the last 12 months' and/or 'have you been admitted to hospital in the last 12 months', and this time scale can be anything from 6 months to 3 years.
It might be worth contacting an insurance broker and getting quotes that way as they will know the best people to go to when there is a medical issue involved.
I have free travel insurance through my bank account but I had to pay an additional £46 for the year to cover my band.
I did shop around and the prices were generally around £70-£80 for the year or £20-£30 per two week European trip.
Even though we have WLS we are still classed as obese and are high risk. I was a bit annoyed really as I tried to explain to them that having had my band I was a much lower risk of obesity related illnesses and was now a normal weight. Unfortunately it makes no difference to the travel insurance companies - we are still obese!
