I luuuuurrrve spicy food. Can you tolerate herbs and spices in your food after bypass or does it cause problems?

I was on curried soups in my liquid stage as I wanted the flavour & still love my hot & spicy foods, its had no effects on me but everyone is very different. x

i have been fine with spices and herbs x

If anything I can tolerate spicer food than pre op. Its more about taste than heat though if that makes sense.

Definitley makes sense, I am fine with eating less but I know I will crave really spicy food with lots of flavour x

I don't think it is spicy or herby that causes us probs post op. It is fatty and sugary or creamy that causes the prob because of the mal or super quick absorption of the food.

Spicy food gives me the runs now :-( and I love spicy food! I have to be quite careful and stick to v small quantities if I want spicy food.

I am 2 weeks out and last night I had some bitternut squash soup out of the freezer. The thing is I forgot how I loved my chilli's before and this was a hot one. Thankfully it went down with no problems and BOY did I enjoy it!

I guess everyone is different. All trial and error at this stage for me :)

Mash with a little Mullagatawny soup at the early stages will be good for you Mandy!I love garlic and herbs, mild chilli and curries no probs yet.But dont be suprised if you go right off spicy food!

I LURVE spicy food and the hotter the better since my op :) - lived on mulligatawny soup at my post op liquid stage .... xx

I would be heartbroken (yes, I mean that as dramatically as it sounds lol) if I go off or cannot tolerate spicy food. My skinny OH loves madras. I am a medium spice girl. Spice and flavour have to balance well.

mmmmmmmmm

Damn, I am on a diet.......Off for a peppermint tea lol

my dietician has told me to get plenty of herbs and spices in for the liquid stage so I can add some taste to it.

Ooh great idea Maz mulligatawny soup is a good call!! If I go off spicy food then thats fine its the wanting it and not being able to tolerate it I would hate, but I will just have to wait and see XX

The herbs and spices were a must for me the food was far too bland, i had no problems with them. good luck!

Please be careful early post op as spicy food can iratate your insides where you were cut and stapled, imagine getting chilli in a cut finger ouch ouch ouch!!!! i was told to avoid them for 6 weeks

Hi Hun . . . I am 2 weeks post op and thankfully avoided the liquid stage . . . currently enjoying Sainsbury’s chick pea and lentil curry which is very flavoursome . . . I have now tried most sorts of foods and I am finding that I am ok with everything thus far ! xx

I just made a very low fat beef curry and had it with brocolli. I only have a side plate of dinner at the moment. It was yummy!

Does beef go down badly after a bypass? I have been having only fish or chicken in my homemade spicy soups for a week :)

Fuffs.

I am 19 days post op and last night I had Braised Beef with onions and red peppers. (I used 2x stock cubes and mixed herbs) I served it with a spoon of mash potato.

I cooked it really slow in the oven until it was nice and tender and so it fell apart with a fork. (about 4 hours at 150)

It went down a treat Mmmmmm.

I guess it depends on how you cook beef.
Best cooked until nice and tender.:D
