How long is the bypass op

louisaL

looking to make a change!
If done by keyhole surgery?

Mine took about 2.5hrs , but can take upto 3.5 hrs xx

They say bout couple of hours I think I was away almost 4 but I had sleep apnoea and they kept me down a little while before coming back to ward. Not long really to change your life xx

I too have sleep apnoea & from walking to theatre till getting back to ward was 5 hrs , but it took them a while to get my pain sorted , but them had none since xx

I didnt have a lot of pain, remember waking up and them asking if i had pain then they gave me a shot and when i woke again they took me back to ward bit sore but the day after justbit discomfort and wind pain but on coming home only problems were constipation xx that was bad enough xx

I last saw the clock at 6.45 and when I woke up in recovery it was 10.35. I felt sick when I woke up, but no pain

I went down at 9 and woke up at 12.15,back on the ward at 1pm. no pain just stinging in the keyhole cuts. No pain relief after day of op, didn't need it.

i was 8-1/2 hours due to a big bleed. cos i am warferin i think, i rememeber waking up in pain and feeling sick in the recovery, then i was wheeled in to the high dependancy unit were everyone goes after the op. i had pain mainly in the main left side incission. but as you have read everyones di fferent, i had some very deep internal stiches, and muscle sutchers thats why i think i was in pain for a bit longer, and for about 2 weeks when i got home after a 4 day stay in hospital xxx

I was told by my surgeon 4+ hours depending on complications but can't say from experience just yet and should be done key hole as long as the liver has shrunk enough Xx

My hospital seems to allow about 2.5 to 3hours for a normal slot. Fingers crossed mine will just take that time and all will be straightforward :)

Lynda, yours was a long ordeal. No wonder your body was sore (((hug))) xxx

I was another "pain in the arse" for the theatre team - Mr P thought it would be about an hour and a half in theatre same in recovery...however it took 6 hours in theatre as I had some complications due to my previous lap band. Then I was in recovery for 4 hours as my chest would not clear and I was having trouble breathing.

My poor family thought I would be gone for 3 hours and it ended up as 10 hours - I hope the poor theatre staff had some lunch before they started!!

So the answer to your questions is - no one reallyknows until they are in and under way with the cutting tools! But the laproscopic bypass is usually 1.5 to 2 hrs according to the team I was under.
Good Luck
xx

I believe that my op it's self took approximately 4 hours, but I remember being took down to theatre and looking at the clock as the anaesthetic was being injected and it said 11.50 am, but the next time I looked at the clock it was 18.45 and I was being woke by the nurse on the ward doing my obs , I don't remember a thing about my immediate post op after care ! ... But is that a bad thing ?. X
