How much protein post op?

candie

fabby not flabby :)
I've been watching a lot of youtube bypass blogs, and they talk about the why protein isolate powder to put in drinks. How much protein are us bypassers supposed to have post op?
Does anyone know any English bypass books, as the usa ones are full of stuff that i've never heard of, plus i'm a veggie too;)

I am not sure as I am a bander but here are some veggie protein sources:)

PROTEIN IN LEGUMES: Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas

PROTEIN IN GRAINS: Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice

VEGETABLE PROTEIN: Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini

PROTEIN IN FRUITS: Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry, Tangerine, Watermelon

PROTEIN IN NUTS AND SEEDS: Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts (black)

One excellent ingredient to look for is hemp seed protein. Hemp seed is an nutritious dietary source of easily digestible gluten-free protein. It provides a well-balanced array of all the amino acids, including 34.6 grams of protein for each 100 grams. The fatty acid profile of the hemp seed is extremely beneficial, containing omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in a virtually ideal ratio. Other beneficial aspects of hemp seed include a strongly favorable unsaturated-to-saturated fat ratio; a high content of antioxidants; and a wide variety of vitamins and minerals.

Hi hun. The amount of protein you need depends on 2 things, what your ideal weight is (mine is 155lbs) and how active you are (high activity=higher protein needed). As a lightly to moderately active person with an ideal weight of 155lbs, I require 88 grams per day to feed my muscles and burn fat.

Here is a link to a post I did about protein supplements:

HTH,
Nic;)

Thanks ladies:D:DI am looking at that super info right now:):)

Can strongly recommend the Met-RX ready to drink ones, always keep one in the fridge for when I can't face a meal.

Thanks shel:D

I've just taken delivery of some cookies n cream protein powder and some iced latte powder - just about to try it! One of the US books I have recommends 70 g protein per day for bypassers post op so i can see how it could be difficult to eat that much protein - hence the drinks. I have just bought a book called nutrition for dummies as I'm ashamed at how little I know!!

oooh let me know about the powders Grom. Especially texture.

sipping the latte one as we speak. So far so good. You mix it with water (you can use milk if you want) so it's not as thick as the pre packaged ones. Not a very strong coffee flavour but I will have a play around with it and see what else you can add to it! Will have cookies n cream one for breakfast and let you know!

Is it grainy/powdery?

Where did you get them from Grom?

Well, I have an American book with recipes and stuff and they advised on some good types to try. I scoured the internet and found them on a site called monster supplements. There are loads of different types of protein powders but you have to make sure they are low fat and low sugar, which these are. They also do them in fruit drink flavours - like lemonade - but everywhere seems to be out of stock of those. They are expensive but the containers are HUGE and as you only need a 30g scoop they will last for ages and work out much cheaper than individual drink cartons.

Is it grainy/powdery?

I haven't mixed this one very well so its a bit lumpy but I reckon if I did it in the blender or took a bit more time to mix it, it would be very smooth - definitely not as gloopy as the carton ones.

I have a carton of mixed berry smoothie protien shake powder which I tried one shake. I have not used the rest (cost £15) so if anyone wants it I would be quite happy to post to you...just let me know ok. First come first served. (PM me):)

I am using chocolate fortimel they are a bit like milk shake. I had 56 bottles on script from my doctor

Hmmmm, I'm a bit stuck with exactly how much protein I should be getting into me on the fluids only phase. I really got the impression from one of the Docs I saw, that during this time its irrelevant as long as you keep hydrated. I know I'm not having nearly enough protein and now I'm worried?!?!? :(

Could someone put the nutritions up per bottle for the fortimel if it's not too much trouble?
