How soon after your gastric bypass were you actually on your feet walking around? Or did you sleep after it?

Were you catheterised?

How soon after did you do a poo or a wee?

Not that I was aware of.

How soon after did you do a poo or a wee?

1st wee was about 24 hours after op, 1st poo was after 5 days.

They had me attempting to walk around 10 hours after my op - it was sheer agony

I had a catherter - it was a gods send. It was removed the day after op and I did not feel a thing.

Actually did not have a poo until around 5-6 days after op. Was weeing as normal as soon as catherter came out.

I walked to the comode about 2 hours later and had a wee then, I had a poo 3 days after. but once ur alert they want u up and about x it's for the best. your urine will be stained by the dye they use to test ur pouch xx

I wasn't catheterised. I had the op at lunchtime and got up that evening to use the toilet with the assistance of a nurse, and then went regularly throughout the night (about every hour!) because of the fluid i was getting through the drip. I needed a nurse to help me because of all the drains, drips, inflating things on my legs and morphine pump. I would have needed about 6 arms! My wee was blue because of the dye, and that was a bit of a shock.

My husband helped me have a shower the following morning but it completely wore me out.

It was about a week before i did a poo.

I had my operation on the morning and when i came round I had a catheter in so was ok for wee's never got up untill the next morning and had my catheter out had a shower all aided by the nurses they were a god send. Walked about quite a bit to stop from getting stiff. It hurt a little but it soon eased and went home the next day.
I did a poo (well a bit of a poo) about 5-6 days later

came out of the op at 5.45pm and they wanted me out of bed 7.30 the following morning. They want you to walk as much as poss, this quickens the healing and helps prevents chest infections, so i was told. It must have worked they let me out 2 days early.
I was catheterised which i dreaded before it was fitted, but it was a lot better than what i thought, you dont even know you are doing a wee, and then a poo 2 days later

How soon after your gastric bypass were you actually on your feet walking around? Or did you sleep after it?Was up and walking to the loo about 5 hours after getting back to my room. Needed nurse's help due to the drips (no not the wee!) Went home the day after op and spent my time between falling asleep or walking up and down my apartment to stay mobile.

By Day 3 I felt grotty, took laxative and felt great the next day!

I had to have an Injection in my stomach daily to prevent DVT, But it didnt hurt at all.

I was up for a wee 5 hours after my op with the help of the nurse holding my drips etc and had a poo the day after my op.

hi
I was up and walking about 6 hrs after when i went for a wee, and lots more all night, didnt have a catheter. Had a poo around 4 days later.

My op was 8.30 and I was back in the ward at 12.15. They got my out of bed around 3.30 for a little walk and at that stage I was too weak to go far. I did go for a wee at that time but it took me ages and I had to run the water in the tap to get me going. I went for another walk about 5.15 and I felt better then.

I had my first poo last night, 4 1/2 days after op.

Re DVT, I got an injection every day (if not twice....got confused with all of them) against DVT

Hi, op was at 5.45pm, was back on the ward by 8.30pm. I just slept and drowsed for the night. I had a catheter in for 24 hours but could walk with it. They had me up and walking first thing in the morning, just little shuffle steps and not too far which left me so out of breath.

Just did my first poop today, 6 days after my op.

The injections are only 1 aspect of the fight against DVT, being up and about and mobile is by far the best way of preventing it.
(sorry, that's the nurse in me coming out!)
Rx

I'm still on injections to prevent blood clots but I'm too much of a wuss to do it myself and get my mum to give them to me, she used to be a nurse.
