Im a little concerned after reading other posts here. Im worried i wont lose weight with the band.

I thought it worked by restricting volume of food. But I read that alot of bad fatty food or sweet food can get through quickly so more willpower (something i suck at) is needed.

I figured I wouldnt have too much choice on food and therefore will lose weight.

Advice needed please. I know anything can fail if you dont work with it.

hi duchess, the band does restrict portion wise foods, the band works best for "volume" eaters but you do have to be sensible with your food choices, slider foods such as chocolate, cakes, ice cream cakes and fatty foods such as crisps will go through the band and willpower is needed with these if you dont think you can give these food types up after banding then you will not loose weight or very little weight, and a bypass would be a better option.
i hope ive explained myself correctly.

With such a low BMI I doubt you would get a bypass. Will power is needed with both ops and you can "cheat" both. If you have correct fills, diet and support then the band will work for you.

At the end of the day you have to really want this and will power is need. There is no such this as a quick fix, easier option. Everything required your imput and effort.

i agree there is no quick fix, its only a tool and if its worked with correctly and the band rules are followed it does work.

well im very hopeful, and as long as I dont feel hungry I will be fine.

my main binges woulf be take away food - high carb.

I went through a sweet toth phase for about 6wks before my pre op diet, but it hadnt happened before.

I am learning about healthy eating alongside of everything else.

I think when I lose weight I will feel better so hopefully wont feel the urge to comfort eat.

Hi Duchess, you won't be able to "binge" so to speak. You can't get the volume past the band but you can eat the wrong foods.

You have to see this as a total lifestyle change, not so much a diet.

You need to relearn your relationship to food, learn to really enjoy the taste of good honest healthy food. I am not saying you wont be able to have what you love now and then, I certainly do but it's all about making wise choices. Respecting your body and loving it.

Its taken me 6 months to get a grip of all this fully and I bet I will still fall down, still make mistakes but they are getting less and less often.

I believe we all have the ability to make this work, for some that is a slower journey but getting there is all that counts..:)

Reading this has made my day. I have my pre-op on Wednesday and was toying with the idea of begging to have a bypass instead of the band, as like Duchess, was thinking I don't have the willpower for a band, but as my biggest problem "was" binging, and binging on the wrong foods (cakes and biscuits) was thinking that the dumping that would be caused from these foods if I had the bypass would be the perfect "therapy" for me. But an irreversible operation scares the hell out of me, which is why I opted for the band in the first place.

Now that I know I won't be able to binge has made me a very happy fella and know that I have now made the right choice.

Just be wary that you could over a day graze on something like cake and cream as that would slide.

It's still a case of mind over matter but as time goes on, you learn that you really don't want to be the way you were...;):)
