Gonna be thinner girl
Can I ask what exactly is a fill? What does it do? When and how often do you have it?
Sorry to be a thicko.....

Its where you go to have your band filled with saline to make the band tighter to cause a restriction. hope this helps xxx

So am i right in thinking that when you have the op it is empty, then after a few weeks you go and have it filled a bit. Then a few more weeks and you go and have a bit more in, so it gets even tighter, then again a third time. The final fill stays unless there is a problem and it can be adjusted by the surgeon? So it is a gradual process of eating less, getting used to that, then eating even less, getting used to that etc.
Is that right?

I thought that as time went on you could eat a little more - fluids, purees and solids, but if its getting tighter, how does it work?
Sorry I am being really thick i know .............

I pre op for a bypass, but I'll try and help. U have the fills till you reach what they call as ur sweet spot. If your not losing weight you would have the saline fill. I think its got to do more with making sure your losing weight. I know different surgeons use different size bands i know 1 is 9ml so if you had 9 mil in ur band u would have the most restriction if you get me. Some surgeons fill when you have your op and some don't. hope this helps a bit and your not thick.
I would type in gastric bands the search engine (google) it will explain everything for you hun xxx

Thanks Joanne
OHhhhh They fill it a bit at a time till you start losing the right amount of weight - thanks I understand that now. I did google it but they all said you had them but now how they worked lol.
Can I ask someone who is post op, can you feel the band inside you, and what does the "port" feel like?

Hi there

The bit of the band that is applied to the top of your stomach, has reservoirs (or pockets) to hold saline.

As this amount is increased over time, it narrows the passage from the pouch above your stomach to your lower stomach.

This has to be adjusted for the lifetime of the band (some people keep the band and some have it removed when at goal)

The amounts can go up or down, as sometimes when they do a fill it can end up being too tight and this in turn stops weigh tloss too. As a patient reverts to foods that slide through fast and do not keep you full and satisfied.

You cannot feel the band inside you at all but you can feel the port under the skin. Each surgeon places this part in his own preferred place. Some, like mine favours the left had side of the abdomen but others have it between the boobies near their breast bones.

It feels like a hazlenut but with a flat side.

Hope this helps.
