I ate pasta!

Sometimes I think I haven't been sleeved as I seem to have very little restriction at all. I kind of did a little test today & ate some of my sons leftover pasta. I ate tiny mouthfuls, chewed very well & was wanting to see if I felt pain or sickness as have been warned to stay away from pasta, at least for a few months. Well I'm only 3 weeks post op & it went down fine! It was very fine vermicelli pasta ( birds nests) but I actually ate quite a bit & had no effects at all. This worries me though.....does it mean my sleeve isn't working? I have yet to find a food I can't tolerate & I can eat a reasonable amount. I wanted my hunger switch turned off, I wanted to only eat tiny portions & I wanted certain foods to disagree with me so I wouldn't touch them! But apparently I can eat whatever I want!

Hi Sheffieldamanda, you seemed to have made a big mush out of that little pasta :) don't worry, it seems to have completely turned to a slider food by the time you swallowed.

I am also sleeved and can eat pasta/bread (not toasted) with no problem. I could also eat beef/lamb from 6 weeks onwards. So I guess some of has more tolerance but don't despair, I still lost a lot of weight. Just focus on eating more protein than carbs. The sleeve is a tool to kick the bad habits - which in my case was too much of snacking on nuts, and too much of sourdough bread with cheese.

Once you start eating hard protein - like chicken/fish/beef etc... then you will feel the restriction, big time. Enjoy it.

Thank you Tules for your reassurance. I don't know what's up with my head! Well I do, I've got PMT & where I'd normally eat my way through all the angst I feel, now I'm just awash with negative feelings & kind of losing control!

I just wondered why if they say don't why did you? My team advised me no pasta nor rice and as of yet I still have had no pasta or rice and i'm 18 months post op..... my honest opinion is to stick to the rules rigidly, there are there for reasons also it helps to begin with as this is your honeymoon period, the time you are going to lose the most of your weight, if you start with the bad habits so soon post op your will be missing a huge trick..... I had a band fitted, its still empty, I lost 9 stone just by following the rules.....only now (18 months in) do I realise just how much I can eat and what sorts of things I can tuck away (and do) should I have discovered this so soon after surgery am pretty sure my weight loss would have so much less!!

Trust in your new tummy, your new tool....it will do the job, I promise....just don't push it so soon, your still healing right now..... follow your rules and the magic will happen...... remember it is a tool and you NEED to work with it, not against it ...........

I know you are right Crystal, I didn't even eat the pasta cause I was craving it or anything, it was purely just to 'test' my sleeve. Up to now I am following all the rules & using this time to break bad habits which so far is working really well - I'm not really suffering from cravings or head hunger at all, and have been making healthy protein based choices. I don't know what's up with me, it's just PMT messing with my mind!

You will have a lot of trying times to come hunni use this time wisely to get the best results possible because its very hard graft soon enough :) good luck x

Also your tummy is still healing. The nerves etc may not register exactly when you are full yet. Also you will really feel it more when you are eating solid proteins. As its already been said you just turned the pasta into a mushy liquid so you could eat more. Don't panic and push too far too soon it will all fall into place x

I had my sleeve 11 months ago and spent the first 3 weeks on nothing but liquid. I then had 3 weeks moving on to thicker soup and yoghurt and purée, I took it so slowly as I was terrified of doing any damage! It was made very clear to follow the rules..sip water, no coffee, no fizzy...I stuck to this like glue..I still do. As a result I have had amazing results and have restriction like steel. In fact my restriction is a bit if a folk law story on here but that's another matter...the up shot is..your stomach was butchered 3 weeks ago...just picture in your head what it must look like inside, a bruised mess, that's what got me through.
Please don't rush things, yes I can eat pasta and bread and cake and treats..but what's the point they have no nutritional value, think protein! Every time you put something in your mouth think how much protein is in this and could I make a better choice, a nutritional choice.
I really want other people to be successful too but it takes work and will power still. Stick to protein mush and let yourself heal...good luck with your sleeve journey x

Thanks all. I've taken on board everything you've said & given myself a good talking to for being so foolish & will not be doing any more ' testing'.
