I just cooked something from scratch!

:eek::eek::eek:

I've not done that in years and the only thing I ever used to know how to make was spaghetti bolognese and a chicken dinner (all made from cans and jars and freezer sections etc)

tonight i made a chicken and veg soup and then a spicy quorn bolognese. All pureed now and in diddy little containers for the freezer.

The horrible thing was not being able to eat either of them. I did have a sneaky little taste on the tip of a teaspoon just to make sure it was ok. Hope that doesn't ruin my pre-op diet! :eek:

OMG I never cook! It's been years of micro meals and takeaways or sandwiches. I'm as chuffed as I was when I learnt to ride a bike. :D

That's awesome! Hopefully this is a whole new lease of life for your kitchen too. I think a lot of us post op start to look a lot more at the quality of what we eat when we can no longer have the quantity!
Also eating slowly as we end up doing, gives the opportunity to really taste what you're eating thoroughly..sometimes you find you just go off what you once loved when it didn't touch the sides...or you discover how satisfying home made can be...and how much nicer usually when you can really hand pick the best meat and veggies etc.
Dean got the Ministry of Food book when it came out and now as well as what I cook, he'll make homemade curries and meatballs etc that are far far better than anything in the takeaway or ready made.
He couldn't cook at all before but now I definately trust him to cook for us !
I bought a slow cooker too and I love concocting lovely high protein healthy stuff now. You will be soon too x

Well done on the cooking hun, bet it's a real sense or achievement seeing all your lovely fresh food. Just wanted to ask, what size are your containers that you are storing the food in. I'm not sure what a portion size looks like on liquid or pureed stage x

lol they are tiny. I got them from Sainsburys at 8 for £1.68. They fit about 4 soup spoonfuls in at the most, which is more than enough for a meal so I don't fill them to the top. I've got nearly 100 of them now.

edit: they're 90 mil capacity.

how did you find out what size meals you would be able to eat. ?

my dietician gave me a post op diet sheet for the first 6 weeks. 1-2 tablespoons full of pureed food per meal. 6 meals per day.

christ....something to look forward to hey lol x

lmao yeah. Not exactly the same as a whopper and fries from burger king is it? But, I'm hoping the smaller clothes sizes will compensate.

Btw if you don't want to buy lots of tiny food containers you can always use freezer bags.
