I NEED YOUR WISE WORDS PLEASE

Right girls and boys, I have been given a damn good chance at getting my bypass ...IF... I lose 2 and a half stone in the next 6 months.
When I was rejected early on, I thought if only i was thrown a lifeline I would do anything because I had this massive prize at the end. I thought I would just get my head down and crack on with it.
Why then am I one week in and have not made any effort ? I keep telling myself to get this week over and then start in earnest. Will I do it though ?
What the hell is the matter with me. I'll never get this chance again.

Please could anyone who had to lose weight to be eligible for consideration of surgery, tell me what they had to lose and how well the did. (I don't necessarily mean the pre-op diet. I know that must be hard also).

I am sure will think I am a complete drip and I can understand that but all the same I need your pearls of wisdom.

Thank you

Only words I can offer and you might not consider them wise is if you really want to take this fantastic chance to be a normal weight sort yourself out and lose the weight. I was told to lose as much weight as I could to improve my chances of surviving the operation, I lost 50 pounds in four months. I really wanted the operation to go ahead but wanted to live through it even more

If you're serious you'll find the way, if you're not move over and let someone who is have the chance.

Listen to Karlos and just do it. Your days of procrastination are over. ( we all did the same for moths and years to keep getting bigger in the first place so don't beat yourself up about the past), so do it, and do it NOW ! It will be worth it-truly it will !

Sorry I agree with Karlos, if you really want it get on and do it, believe me you will have to do the dreaded pre-op or you will stand every chance of being rejected at the time of surgery. You will have to change your eating habits to cope after the bypass. This may all seem harsh but believe me those of us who have done it and maintain it know its not just this first battle its never ending, you have to have the right mindset or you will fail and you need to start now, if its the right time you will find a way.

Good luck

M

Very good advice from all above, knuckle down and take up the challenge your op awaits you don'tlet this chance slipaway, I waited 2 years for mine, your time will fly over. If you can't do it yourself join ww or sw for a kick start. xx

If you really want to get this bypass then you'll lose the weight, you really haven't got a choice have you?
You'll regret it big time if you let this chance slip through your hands.

Hi Janeyf, I had to loose 2 stone before surgery.

Myself and my husband started eating the 'Change for Life' weekly meal planner recipes and from November to January I lost just short of 1 stone. Then in January I joined a gym (which I did with gritted teeth!) ended up loving it and from January to March I lost another 1 and a half stone!

I was a real choc-o-holic so I completely cut it out, no moderation as for me this always leads to more, and ate at least 5 pieces of fruit per day.

After all of this I started my pre-op diet on which I lost another 2 stone.

I hope this helps you..xx

Kim..xx

PS.
It's ok for all the people above to just give the advice of KNUCKLE DOWN but none of them are giving you advice on how to knuckle down!

Sorry guys..xx

Also, just find something thats works for you and stick with it..xx

Good luck!

Hi there x

People are saying to 'knuckle down' because that's all we can say.
It's up to that person to decide how much they really want this operation.
Nobody can lose the weight for them.
And your right to say find something that suits you as your likely to stick with it x

My advice that seems to working for me is cut down loads on carbs first. (naughty ones like bread rice pasta) My surgeon said I was addicted to them and I definitely was! They make you eat more and you get in a cycle. Break this habit and it's so much easier! I think they are the devils work!!! Obviously this is just my opinion but it seems to be working for me :) I used to hear the bread calling me from the kitchen but I was strong and feel a million times better for it!! Maybe it will work for you. Good luck either way!! X

We could waste our time writing diet sheets and meal plans but the OP's GP and dietitian will have already wasted lots of their time over the last few years doing just that, I know mine did for me for many years

The reality is either the individual wants this badly enough to make it work or they don't, their choice; just as it was for the thousands of us who did lose the required weight before our operations

What is OP ?

Thanks , op means operation to me lol x

Hey I wasn't being rude, I just think from my experience people saying knuckle down and not giving me their advice or the way they did it really didn't help.

I agree at the end of the day its up to Janeyf to do it but it doesn't hurt to share experiences..xx

Sorry didn't mean to upset any one!

If you want this op so bad you will do it... no it isnt easy... yes its hard work... but the end result is... you have the op..safely. you lose weight.. your health improves and you get your life back. or you dont lose the weight and dont have the op... and so on... i know which option i would choose... im 9 stone lighter and it was the best thing i ever did xx good luck hun xx

Thank you all so much for taking the trouble to respond to me.

I know you are all right and that it is down to me to find the determination to make myself eligible for this surgery.

I have decided to go back to weight watchers which will give me some accountability.

No more whining from me - only action

Thanks

Jane x
