Sorry to hear you are in pain hun. The general rule for bypassers with ibuprofen and any NSAID's is that we cannot take them, but there are some people I know that are prescribed them.
The reason we are not meant to have them is that they can cause stomach ulcers, and with our small pouches that would cause us lots of problems.

If you need to take the short term, and take them carefully (always with food), and you are taking an antacid daily, and you don't have a history of heartburn/indigestion/ulcers then it is generally ok. Taking them long term though for anyone post op is a no no.
What about ibuprofen gel instead? Ibuleve or similar. Or there is a stronger diclofenac gel available also.

I was told not to take them and I read some where that because our pouch is so small they "land" in the same place in the stomach each time and can cause upset. I am not sure how true this is.
Why dont you ask the chemist, or maybe someone at Boots, as they are normally quite good and helpful

No you are not supposed to take ibuprofen after a bypass.
It is because it sits in your pouch on the join and can cause ulcers. And apparently ibuprofen is one of the worst for stomach problems.
I know I've had a DS but its the same for me - I was taking sustained release diclofenac pre-op and had to stop that cos it sits and rots!!
I too have awful arthritis and can have ordinary diclofenac as long as its only when I'm desperate and if I take a proton-pump inhibitor (omeprazole for me) everyday.
Can't take ibuprofen anyway cos it gives me the runs but apparently thats the rules with NSAIDs
I'd check with your surgical team - there may be an alternative that you could have

Six Month Post Op
Does anyone know about suppositeries, Im assuming because they are not taken into the stomach they are ok post bypass? You can get alot of drugs in this form and can be very helpful, I am suffering with alot of pain daily and am considering dicolfenac supposeteries, does anyone know anything on the contarary to this?:wave_cry:
