Hi everyone, I've just joined today after reading some messages from other people going through/been through gastric band surgery.

I'm 28, 18 stone and 5ft 8. I've always battled with my weight and finally made my mind up to get a gastric band in 3 days times. I'm so nervous and excited (to see the results).
I'm looking for some words of advise and if anyone else had my stats and what your weight reduction was after 9 months?

A very worried Eve xx

Hi Eve,
Welcome, it's very quiet on here today and unfortunately I can't help much as I'm a bypasser and only 6 days post op. But I wish you well and I know someone will be along soon who can answer your questions.

Hi Eva welcome to the forum hun theres lots of usuful info within its pages hope you have a speedy recovery after your surgery. Happy Christmas xxxx

Welcome Eva :)

Welcome Eve :) there are lots of banders on here, i'm sure you will get lots of advice and support, I think the band is the hardest of the surgeries, but the results can be amazing, good luck :) xxx

Hi Caren, thanks for your note. What do you mean hardest?? Hardest to recover from or to generally manage? X

Recovery from the op is the same as the other ops, but its very easy to cheat with the band, you need a lot of will power, there are a few that fail, but if you work with it, it can be amazing! Jo is the best one to talk to, she is very successful, and so are a lot of others on here x

That is really interesting as I have very little will power or I do at the start then go off the rails. If I put the effort in early I should then use the band the adjust my lifestyle in the future? (hopefully). I need to see results quickly so I keep strong, in 9 months do you think 7stone is possible?? X

It's possible if you work with the band, i found the op kinda worked on my head too, it seems to give you strength, just work hard honey and you will love it :) x

hi, please dont let me put you off but if you have the chance to get a bypass then do so, the band totaly didnt work for me, now ive been fighting for 3 years to get the bypass xxx

Hi, thanks but my op is on Thursday and the bypass is double the cost of a band as going private. I think I'm going to have to give the band a go first. Can you tell me why it didn't work for you? Xx

I hope the operation went well.

Most of the people I know who have had the band have had great success with it - as long as they remembered that it is a tool and not a 'cure all'. As I say it is 'most' people, there are some it hasn't - likewise with the bypass.

Anyway, hope you are up and about and all ok xx

Eve hope your op went well. I am a bander, 5ft 8, started at 20st8lbs and have lost over 10 stones in less than a year, so yes 7 stones is achievable in 9 months. Mini targets/non-scale victories too along the way may help you keep focussed. Will power/focus is important if you want to lose that much weight in a relatively short period of time. Good luck :)
