Its a hard one isnt it, on one hand at 14 they cant really have tried everything surely. But on the other of they have and nothing has worked why drag out the inevitable.
I do think though that all children dr's schools & hospitals should be keeping a closer eye on them to ensure that all kids stay healthy and excercise more. Psp's and wii's are good in moderation but I know some teenagers spend their whole life on them and only go out of their room for school.
I am no saint (or else I woudlnt be obese) but I am much more vigilant on what my children do and eat and drink than myself, yes they have macdonalds, pizza's chocolate sweets like all other children but as treats and in moderation. I would know if one of my children was becoming worryingly overweight and I would nip it in the bud, I know after my experiences that being obese holds you back in more ways than anyone could ever know.
It would be an idea for them to introduce healthy eating and excerise as part of the curriculum along with sex education.
