Hi

I don't take them and I wouldn't unless I am told I need them as a result of a blood test. I do take Forceval multivitamins though which do have quite a high Iron level for a multivitamin..

Are you on ferrous sulphate tablets? If so ask to change to FERROUS FUMERATE SUGAR FREE SYRUP. It is far gentler on your tummy and better absorbed post bypass.

Just took multi-vitamins until 6mths post blood test showed levels were down took extra 60g a day docs prescription plus multi vits for 2 mths then he stopped it. But 9mth test showed low again do back on them but only 200mg plus multi vits at mo. I have extra vit d & zinc at the mo to. I nibble on prunes most days to ease any toilet problems.

Me too - can't bare the thought of taking them, just hope my Hb means I wont have to when I have my bloods done in 3 weeks.

How do you eat prunes as they contain so much sugar?

Yes, they were prescribed by surgeon so I bow to his expertise lol;). I think they are strongly recommended for women who still have periods. Low iron levels lead to tiredness, slow healing, breathlessness, dizziness (if it gets really low). As shelbel suggests it is probably worth asking GP to try other form of iron, and maybe add in something to reduce constipation.

Yes, I've been prescribed iron since my op along with a multivitamin and calcium and been told Im on these long term now x

Hi

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I wonder with all the talk that has go on about WLS patients needing their gallbladder out quite soon after surgery if it has anything to do with all the Calcium tablets that some end up taking, after all a gallstone is basically a big ball of calcium isn't it.

Yup. Just ask your gp, I took my hospital sheet to them. I get a pre paid prescription card for £100 a year and get mine on that
