Is a sleep study necessary?

My doc didn't mention a sleep study... at least not yet. Did you have a sleep study done?

Every provider is different , I didnt have a sleep study but that was due to the fact I showed no signs of having sleep apnea. I am not 100 % if I am correct but it all depends if you show the classic signs of sleep apnea etc ....wells that thats what I was told anyway, even if they do the sleep study they will just be making sure they are covering all the bases before your op - Good luck what ever happens x

Yes, I did recently at Manchester UK...

I was told that it important because of the sleep apneoa and for consideration post surgery... link below

I've had a sleep study but it was not directly linked to my referral for WLS i was referred to a seperate consultant when i saw my GP about WLS i also told her about some other problems and she referred me to the chest clinic who said they wanted to do a sleep study. I attended the chest clinic on the Tuesday afternoon where they showed me how to attach the equipment and told me to put it on about an hour before going to bed that night. It was basically like an old walkman which strapped around your middle just under you bust with another strap around your tummy, then some tubing that wraps around your ears to hold two small plastic tubes up your nostrils and a probe on your index finger to measure Oxygen saturation in your blood, i had a suprisingly good nights sleep which i wasnt expecting at all. the following morning you take all the equipment off and drop it back in at the hospital. i know some hospitals set it all up and you have to keep it on but mine just showed me how to do it myself. I had the study about 4 weeks ago now and i am still awaiting the results.

Yes, I had a sleep study as part of all the pre-application funding assessments that were required for my area. It's very straight forward and I was able to collect the machine and do mine at home. In some instances it can help your funding application of you do have sleep apnoea.

I did'nt have to have one but all surgeons require different tests before operating. Good luck xxx

If you do have it its much better to get it treated you will feel much better, it can have huge implications on the anesthetic. If you snore or feel tired a lot then ask about it.
