4 1/2 months down the line and Ive dropped 6st 1lb - down from a 30/32 to 22/24 but I cannot see it. I look in the mirror and I look like the same fat blob I was before surgery. I know I have the same to lose again and that it takes time for your head to catch up with your body but this is ridiculous. Went out with relatives for lunch the other day and was convinced I wouldnt fit into the restaurant seat which I did with ease - Its really beginning to bring me down now and its so stupid! Anyone else had this problem??

Hi hun when i lost 31lbs i could not notice it but so many could and i know its no where near the fab amount u have lost and congrats to ya.
Could you poss take a pic of u in the same clothes u wore on the day or ur surgery and then compare the 2 pics and see the massive difference.
I think a lot of people who have lost massive amounts of weight like you find it takes longer for them to acknowledge they look very different.
Am sure there will be others along soon who have lost massive amounts of weight like u in such a short time and will be able to offer u some more advice.
Take care hun and keep up the fab weight losses and ty for ur support xxx

Hi Caroline,

This is a common problem with weight loss, body-image experts say it’s not uncommon for people, especially women, who have lost a lot of weight to be disappointed to some extent to discover that they still aren’t “perfect.” The excess fat is gone when they reach their goal weight, but they may have sagging skin, cellulite or a body shape that they still deem undesirable. Some even continue to see themselves as though they are overweight. Some specialists use the term “phantom fat” to refer to this phenomenon of feeling fat and unacceptable after weight loss.
This may happen because the brain hasn’t “caught up” with the new, leaner body, particularly for people who were obese for many years and then experienced rapid weight loss.

You will get there, listen to the compliments, buy some new tailored clothes and know that soon the brain will catch up.

6 stone 1 lb is a brilliant acheivement - congratulations and good luck with the next half of your wonderful journey...:)

If you put 2oz's of butter on the end of a knife it looks quite a bit, but spread it over your bread or toast and it virtually disappears. Thats the main reason you can't see it. As you get smaller your weight loss will become more and more noticable to you.

Also you might still have a little bit of your fat head on. I know I have cause I keep putting clothes on that are miles to big for me.

Its a great weight loss, well done.

xx

You have made an amazing accomplishment. Well done on you. The therapist I have been seeing says this is a common occurrence after WLS and massive weight loss.

Hi maybe you could get someone to take photos of you every couple of weeks and then as you go along you will be able to see the difference in yourself. Although I find it difficult myself accept compliments from people when they tell you your looking good. I am sure you will soon notice the difference because you have done really well to go from 30/32 to 22/24.

wow, you are doing amazingly and i can imagine that it is very hard to see it yourself. i once lost 4 of my excess 7 stone and although i was wearing much smaller clothes i still wasnt happy because i wasnt the size i wanted to be so to me i was still just as fat and overweight. remember also that you have done this in a very short space of time, itll take some time to get your head round. i think photos every couple of weeks is an excellent way to help you visualise the differences.
good luck for the rest of your journey.

Caroline...6st 1lb is an amazing loss

I think the photo idea is a good one as it will be easier to see the difference...don't let it get you down, you're doing fabbbbb!!!

Guys you are all fantastic and if I wasnt so camera shy, I would go down that route! My colleague at work took some pics of me a wee while ago and I insisted on holding my bosses dog over most of my belly! He was a good foil until he had his summer haircut! Sure my brain will catch up soon, if its still like that when I hit target then I shall have some intensive therapy!!! I think we are all doing brilliantly.

Should have gone to Specsavers :D:D

91 Pounds is a fantastic achievement honey by any standards. You have done brilliantly so far.

I understand how you feel completely as I look in the mirror and still see a huge fat git looking back at me. It will never go quick enough.

Trust the tape babe its telling you how much you've achieved so far, and it never lies.

If you've kept them try on a few of your old clothes, and when you've stopped laughing you'll feel better

Concentrate on how fantastic you look and listen to those who tell you how great you are doing xxx

Well done that's an absolutely brilliant weight loss - You should hold your head high and walk with pride, Very best wishes on the rest of your weight loss journey :)

Hi Caroline

First of all well done you on your amazing weight loss, you should be very proud of yourself as it is an amazing achievement that not so long ago you probably thought would never happen....so that in itself is something very positive.

However.....i definitely understand what you mean and how you feel. I am now just over 7 months post op and have lost 7 stone 5 pounds but to me i only feel like ive lost about 3. This is because it is such a big weight loss in such a small space of time....also.....think about when people see you that havent seen you for a while, they really do notice the weight loss and will give you all those compliments....as silly as this bit sounds, you see yourself everyday so you dont notice quite as much as everyone else does.

Keep it up though as it is amazing and keep believing that eventually your mind will catch up with your body and you will think you look as fantastic as you actually do and as others tell you. The clothes sizes dropping off you and the scales dont lie hun so keep believing.

:):):)

Wow, congratulations on the fab weight loss! How awesome are you?

Seriously now, go out and buy something well fitting, you'll see the difference. And although you won't realise it you'll be walking faster and longer without so much huffing and puffing (i did when i lost 83lb many moons ago - i didn't even notice, my mom told me about it lol).

Give your head to catch up with the rest of you, cos you are beautiful.... cannot do all the lyrics dinner is nearly done...

continued good luck to you xx
