Ive still not paid.....last inute advise please

Tamgredan

wanna be happy!
Morning all,

I did ring to pay for my band on Monday, but the girl i spoke to said she wanted me to speak with another girl and that they would ring me back. Unfortunately i had to go to work and work afternoons and i was on a course all day yesterday.

BUT

Something was still nagging me so last night i had a BIG chat with my husband about it, and he pretty much hit the nail on the head.

In the past when ive done a diet or tried "healthy eating" i do really well for about 12 weeks then fall off the wagon and dont get back on it.
When i done cambridge diet, i got down to about 15 stone and a size 18 and felt amazing (and looked great too) so i thought i could come off the diet and go back on it when i put a few pounds on, but of course i didnt and have since put on 6 stone.
I know with the band, if i fall, i at least wont be able to have massive portions or binge eat as ill be sick and trust me, i hate being sick.

Also, i have a very very stressful job. Im a site manager and have about 300 staff and every day is just fire fighting. I read that stress causes the band to be tight.

Encouragement please, am i doing the right thing?

I think only you can decide that at the end of the day.

Worse case scenario with a band, and take this from someone who has done it and learnt from it,
You can still eat some unhealthy foods yes... UNLIKE me though, you found us before the op.

I did not have any forewarning about planning ahead to follow a healthy diet or join a diet group after my op.
I didn't know what to do when I had to wait for restriction and I made lots of mistakes.

However, even without good restriction I had enough damage limitation by having the band in to have a lot lot less than I would have without the op.

Also I found out that having the band in place (again even without ideal restriction) that sticking to a calorie controlled diet is 100 times easier. You do feel fuller on less....

We have Mazza's food guide which will help you make the good choices for eating with a band which will really help to keep you fuller and maximise your loss.

As we are all only human, you will be pleased to know that you can have a treat day once a week to eat what you fancy and as long as you put in a little effort daily most of the time to eat sensibly and move more, the weight is going to come off.

As you get further out of the op (years out) there is always the option to return for more restriction...if you take care of your pouch it won't stretch.

If you do go for a band, then we are willing and ready to support you through every stage.

I have considered a bypass but it just feel to drastic to me plus i could not afford it now and i need to sort my weight out now as im doing gown hill at a rapid rate of knots.

Neen, the bit you wrote about the band making a caloried controlled diet 100 time easier was very nice to hear - thankyou!

I do intend on going to all support groups my provider has, plus joining a slimming group. I know how to eat healthy

Not sure if this is any help or not, but before I saw my surgeon I made a list up on a spreadsheet with each type of surgery on offer i.e band, bypass, sleeve (pose could be added not too) and listed benefits of each and drawbacks of each. I shortlisted to band or sleeve but was advised by consultant to go for bypass as they only fund a couple of band fills anyway and he thought bypass would suit my own personal eating habits.

If you are not sure, then perhaps it's best to stand back and re-evaluate?

I would never try and persuade someone to have one op over the other because it is an individuals choice and they have to live with it.

A band is for life despite what we sometimes hear...certainly what I was told!!

You proved lots of times to yourself that you can follow a diet, and me too...been on tons of them and lost a load then regained!

So far, I have lost over 9 stone and I have wavvered a tiny bit through daft moments , but have always maintained control and lost any small regains.

I calorie count out of personal choice because it just helps me focus... I have lost weight at a reasonable weight, not had my hair fall out, or felt ill or been malnourished!

I have enjoyed all my old favourite foods but through having the band, I have learnt to eat normally.

I don't binge (if I eat a little too much I throw up and get a nasty pain...trust me you don't need to do that too often before you learn)

I eat sloooooow, I am not afraid to leave food on my plate when I feel satisfied.

I can savour my fave ice cream or cake once a week, have a small portion and really enjoy it guilt free then leave the rest feeling good about it.

I am committed to getting the rest of my weight off and keeping it off and always happy to help anyone else do the same x

Thanks guys,

I know the band is the right choice for me and i have just phoned up and secured my date of 5th april at sheffield. I feel excited now that i have done it which tells me its the right choice.
I have considered wls for 2 years now on and off but got serious about it in october 2010 - so im well researched. NHS dont offer any wls in my area (i have checked)

Im going to be a bandit!!!!!! yyyyiiipppppeeee
