Jelly...

Hey everyone, i'm confused (again)!

are we allowed to eat jelly in the two weeks post op after being banded?

x

lulu ... best to pick up the phone or check the website for your provider to check, as all providers guidelines are different. Even for me as a bander now, while it melts, sometimes it can take a while for Jelly to go down through the band, which is why i often eat the sugar free stuff to fill me up for a while. let us know which provider you are under, and what they say as it may be helpful for other banders with the same provider :)

I'm bypassed not banded but did have sugar free jelly from quite early on as it slides down well but mixed with milk & a little protein powder for the protein hit needed for us by-passers.
But agree better to double check with your provider.

Thanks, i'll check with them when i have my op on the 12th. do either of you have any protein shakes you recommend? x

My provider was a yes immediately in the post op diet.

But it hurt so much it made my eyes water and I havent touched it since.

Every provider seems to have different rules for the same thing. Regardless of what I read in books or on here, I always followed the list I got to the letter.

I have the protein shake but not often. I use a PHD strawberry one which is supposed to be mixed with water. i mix it with milk instead to make it less sweet and to up the protein even further. I know Jo uses the wieder chocolate one which she says tastes great.

Lu - Im with HW as you know, and the jelly isn't listed in the handbook that you are given with what they suggest that you have. I did enquire at the time and was told it would be ok IF it was turned to liquid in the mouth before it went down to the stomach - then its only a liquid. I found by the time it dissolved in the mouth and back to liquid it was fine . . .but I only had it a couple of times on the liquid only stage as I'd had it lots doing the milk diet during the pre-op. :)

Another thing if you want to confirm it with them, you can always post and ask on HW forum - admins from HW read and respond so you'd have a direct answer too, but that is what they said to me after my surgery :)

I brought the plain powder from Julian Graves/Holland & Barrett. That way I could & can add it to anything savoury & dessert based. At the start I used a scoop of powder with a 1/4 cup each of milk, fat free Greek yoghurt & fresh or frozen fruit blitzed as a smoothie, or blended into soups for an extra protein hit. I also brought sample sachets of the different flavours I fancied from my protein .com it gave me a chance to see which I liked without buying a big tub , but was great to when we went away 5wks post op to Spain by adding milk I could have a shake that was tasty & safe ensuring I got a good protein hit each day.
Hope that helps.
