Apologies if this has been posted before, but my powers of searching forums has failed me...

My pre-op letter says that all jewellery needs to be removed prior to surgery, but I am unable to remove my engagement/wedding rings from my fingers due to the extra chub. Has anybody experienced this before?

I was wondering if sticking a plaster or two over them would be OK as I'd like to avoid having them cut off! I am going private this time round, a previous NHS op didn't require their removal so I'm wondering whether I need to highlight this with my Patient Care Coordinator or not. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I took mine off due to the value of them but also after the op they pump fluids in to you to keep you hydrated, i blew up like a balloon and my hands were full of fluid, i couldnt get my rings back on for three days and they were still tight. If you are prone to water retention its something to consider..the ring thats already tight might get very tight.

I was offered the choice for my engagement/eternity rings, remove them or tape up my finger in micropore (I'm allergic to plasters) the other jewellery (necklace & earrings had to come off)

yes I was told for next weeks op, same as Butterfly_Lady.

i work in a operating theatre and people often have the wedding ring and engagement ring taped if they can't get them of or want to leave them on for sentimental reasons, just ask for the rings to be covered with tape

I left most of my jewellery on/in including 9 out of 11 piercings and my wedding and engagement rings. They said so long as they weren't a choking hazard or came loose there wouldn't be a problem. Lip ring and tongue bar stayed put without any problems lol
