Lack of Hunger

During all the threads i have noticed most people feel hungery at some point, and i understand that after the op the feeling does come back, however i did not crave/need or want solids at all during the milk diet other then once and still feel the same post op.

Has anyone else felt this way? How long until the feeling of hunger comes back?

Nearly 6 months and rarely hungry. I get head-hunger, and emotional-hunger, but genuine hunger is very very rare for me.

i haven ot even had the head/mental hunger

i am going ot have to force myself to eat

TS, you are actually very lucky because so many of us really have to battle the head hunger/emotional hunger. Good for you!! That just means that you will have an easier time with your journey. Your hunger will eventually return as your stomach heals & such but it will be mild as you will be ahead of the game mentally so LUCKY YOU!!!

Make the most of it & enjoy not being ruled by your tummy. I am a bit jealous!!

Nic:):):D:D;);)

chuckles thanks phatgirl just didnt want to feel weird thought i would be hungry during these stages... lol dealing with constipation today hoping jonah can get some prune juice on the way home

This is a common problem early post-op, you can do a number of things to help:

1. Use Benefiber daily in hot or cold drinks, it is tasteless and helps make you regular. You can double the dose when you are already constipated.
2. During a bout of constipation, you can use senakot (sp?) from the chemist, it is gentle and comes highly recommended by post-ops.
3. You can use high doses of Vit C (1000-2000 mg/day) which will help get things moving.
4. Some people also us suppositories when all else fails.
5. Increase you water intake, most surgeons recommend this technique becasue it is usually at the root of early post-op constipation.

ok am increasing my water atm and will take whatever Jonah gets on his way home whenever that might be, a little more comfortable atm...

Just to add to PG's fabby advice, I read on your other thread that you are using co-codamol, which will be contributing to the constipation. Codeine tends to bung you up ;) Maybe try paracetemol and see if that is strong enough instead?

Shel chances are it is the co-codamol as i know i am drinking the required amount per day, i have cut out 2 of the doses and find during the daytime i do not need any pain-killers so rather than dose myself up am going without. Jonah only managed to get syrup of figs grrrr but it helped a little i will wander ot the supermarket today and get some juice. I think thats more where my problem lies, i have been religous on the protien shakes and the oxo/clear soup and not really been taking any juice. I need to work out a balance. for some reason juice just doesn't taste right to me even diluted. Taste buds are shot when it comes to sweet things, not that thats a downfall of mine, my downfall has always lain with savourys

great i have a way to go then :) and to try and tempt myself went shopping for fruits for smoothies and will post a new recipe each day

Hi
I'm still not getting hungry. I have had a really busy day today and realised at about 7 pm that I had hardly eaten at all - not good! I am usually very organised but I wasn't today so that's a warning to me that I need to keep planning ahead. BTW the prune juice worked for me! I took it with lots of water! The benefibre is good but my dietician warned me it only works withy lots of water - if you don't drink enough it can have the opposite effect.

i have not managed to locate any prune juice lol so i bought some pitted prunes and have liquidised then and dilute with fruit juice its helped a lot... problem now solved

ohh i have a lidl near me will look there, asda did not i hunted everywhere as they split the fuices up into different area's

Yes it tasted ok, was just careful about the quantity and i have some in the fridge in case i need it. However i seem to be ok again the one shot did the job
