I am 17days post op with my bypass and it's "the time of the month" I am craving crisps and chocolate as I always have at this time of the month. Is there anything sweet I could have that's not high in sugar and fat? Ive been on puréed food for a week now x

stewed fruit wit low fat custard? If I'm craving chocolate or sweet things I have options hot chocolate, normally the white choc ones, but they also do normal, mint, orange too, 44 cals and can be nice and filling :)

diabetic strawberry icecream is suprisingly good. had it in hospital after my op and tracked it down in morrisons.

It's no better for you than a small scoop of normal ice cream. It's really high in fat and the sugar content is still quite high.

i dont think i meant its particularly good for you, just that as a diabetic, in a weak moment, i enjoyed it and i think thats what the question was about wasnt it?

I think what Paula was saying was that the diabetic icecream offers no benefits over the normal icecream, I don't think she was judging your choice hun :)

Whey hey icecream from holland and barretts is slightly better and if you're adventurous, get yourself an icecream maker and make some yummy protein icecream :) (got to be good protein tho)

Your right Yve, I wasn't. I apologise Dandelions if I came across as being harsh, that wasn't my intention. I also didn't know you were diabetic.

If you crave chocolate, the shape desserts are quite nice, I used to have half a one at your stage, but have a whole one now. The milk chocolate ones are the best, I find the white chocolate ones too sickly. Also weight watchers chocolate mousse isn't bad.:)

Hi there,

A big tricky this one...as your quite early out I reckon most slightly sugary things may make you dump.
And dumping is noooo fun..I wanted to die eating 1 square of diabetic chocolate,in the early weeks.
What about jellies?...I had lots of these, good way of getting your fluids in too

When I crave sweet (not that often, luckily) I treat myself with and homemade Chia Seed Pudding.
You can google many recipes. This is mine.
Ingredients are (serves 2):
- 200ml skimmed milk or ss (or any other kind of milk you prefer. Calories per serving vary accordingly. I use 2% semi skimmed)
- 3 tablespoons of raw chia seeds
- 2 teaspoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 0 cal sweetener to taste (I use none)
Mix all ingredients in a small tub (ideally a small mason jar) and refrigerate for the night. You'll have pudding ready for breakfast or for a snack.
Eat within 2 days.
It's only 115 cals per serving, packed with calcium (from the milk and from the chia seeds) and fibres from the chia seeds

If I get a sweet craving a options or hightlight hot chocolate helps :) If you add milk it gives you more protein too :)

I'm pre-op but over the last couple of months I've developed a real liking for chocolate tea. It's like hot choc without the kcals. I don't sweeten my drinks but I'm sure a bit of sweetener would make it more chocolately tasting if you wanted.

There's lots of brands but my favourite by far is Yogi Choco. It's reminded me to stock up before my op next week.
