Lady zone

Hi

I am due to go for my induction (free trial) at lady zone in Orpington next week, and am REALLY nervous. At 21stone am still feeling a bit intimidated by the idea of a gym, but really need to shift this weight. Has anyone else been? What's it like??

I joined lady zone a couple of weeks ago, and have been a minimum of 4 times each week. I was over 22 stone when I joined the gym, and felt as you did when going. Although I didn't feel that comfortable during my first visit when I went for my induction it was much better, went through the kit, weighed and measured and off you go.

I have seen even in the few visits I've had, a real improvement in the amount of reps Im able to do on the kit and can already feel a difference in what it is achieving. Yes the weight loss is of course greatly aided by my band, but I notice a difference in my fitness already.

They have a no mirror policy, so there's no mirrors to worry about, and there's such a wide range of ages, to this point I've only seen a couple of people of a similar age to me and as such, our oldest lady is 87! There's a wide range of fitness levels and size of people too, but some people just walk in off the street, change their shoes and away they go.

Its very relaxed, a good half hour workout and I've really enjoyed it despite my initial feelings at my first visit. If there's anything else you want to know, give me a shout :)

Not been to Ladyzone but I'm sure you will love the gym Sarah. There are people of all shapes and sizes at all gyms and people tend to just get on with there stuff. I know how you feel but believe me when you've been once or twice you will feel very comfortable. Best of luck with it and hope you are good :) x

Thanks TopKat, was due to go a couple of months ago pre surgery, but bottled it! I am really looking forward to going to the gym now but still nervous so your post is a great help, thank you.

Shelleymarie, I am really good thanks Hun, have you started at the gym now? How are you doing?

The one thing I liked about it is that there's such a mix of ages and sizes that they really don't take any notice. It isn't intimidating like some places can be filled with really thin and fit people. Nobody really takes much notice to be honest and the fact that there's no mirrors in the gym area means you just concentrate on what you're doing :)

I didn't like it the first time I went in, but from my induction onwards its been great. Its not the cheapest gym by a long way, but it suits me and the 30 min work out fits perfectly into my schedule which enables me to go regularly :)

Sarah, just wanted to come and let you know something . . .I've been experiencing intense pain around where my port is etc where I've had my band fitted and after speaking to my provider we have ascertained that it is because of the abdo exercise that I do at ladyzone . . .I feel like Ive been kicked by a donkey!

I don't know how things are with bypass, but I've been advised that I must not do abdo exercises, sit ups or crunches for at least 3 months post surgery and after that it should be limited. One of the pieces of kit in the ladyzone circuit does exactly that, so I need to go to them and get them to find me an alternative until I am able to return to it and then limit that part.

Just wanted to give you a heads up, so that when you do go, you can find out about it in relation to your surgery . . .but Im certainly suffering for it today!

Oh bless you Top Kat, I hope you feel better soon. Can they do something that'll allow you to target that area without using that specific machine?? I've signed up with 'curves', had my induction tonight. They are the same as ladyzone, but are 2 minutes away from where I work (worked in that building for 14 years and I didn't know they were there) so it's so much more convenient. Am really excited by it, can't wait to do my first session on Monday. Xxx. Let us know how you get on. I take it you'll not be going for a bit?

Yes, am going in today to do a "light" session and also to talk to them about avoiding the machine which involves the sit ups, none of them for me for at least 6 weeks, they may just let me do the extra time on the cross trainer or something, I love that thing lol

Good luck at curves! Be good to know how you get on ~ just be aware of any abdominal exercises lol x

I will keep you posted on how I get on, hope you're feeling better now. Just out of interest, have you noticed any difference in weight loss since you started?

It is hard to know what loss is coming from going to the gym or from my band, I notice a progression daily in the fitness levels, I can do more reps each time and the levels of weights etc slowly increasing . . .I find the exercise easier each time and can push myself more each time. I cant say my loss of inches is just from the gym because of being post op, as it happens, it has made me sooooo hungry and with having little restriction from the band its made it difficult, I actually put on 2lb in the 2nd half of this week having lost 3 lb in the first half, now it could be from the generation of muscle (Ive been to the gym 5 out of 7 days in that time) or it could be that I've eaten more cos I've used more energy and have been reallly hungry. Im going for a fill tomorrow to help me get a balance :) I do feel better for going tho :)

I don't actually understand how the band works, but hope after your 'fill' things are better for you restriction wise. I can't wait to go on Monday for my first real session.
