Last stone to blitz - Atkins diet

Stellap

At goal at last.....
I have a stone left to lose and I so I am going to try really hard to get it off in quick time so am planning on doing the Atkins diet. Does anyone know if there are any reasons why bypassers shouldn't do it - thought it would be the best one for protein (I don't dump on fat so that's not a problem). I am planning to keep fat to a minimum and just concentrate on protein, veg and cut out the milk. Anyone tried this post-op?

ooooo my friends done this diet and i do know they highly recommend its not done as its bad for you as actually the fat content is quiet high, hmmmm maybe someone whos done it can help you more xx

Thanks Kelly, I have done it before and lost loads on it but I was worried about the fat content as I had high cholestrol then but I was thinking of doing it by mainly eating protein (chicken, fish, seafood) and being very limited with fats (cheese, process meat, butter) our bodies do actually require some fats (healthy ones) which I will mainly use as nuts, olive oil, oily fish etc. Haven't done it since the op though and just wondered whether anyone had had any adverse reactions. I guess the restriction of carbs and upping protein after bypass is a sort of Atkins type diet anyway, but just wondered whether anyone had done it.

yeh so in theory it should work a treat hey! lets hope someone whos done it can come and offer personnal experiance on it...... xx

Have a look at south beach, its like a less fatty version of Atkins ;)

I think Sambuca is doing it at the moment, or a revised version anyway.....

Good luck with it xx

I think there is a new version of Atkins out now, which has more healthy carbs and less fat!
When I did Atkins a few years ago, I did a lower fat version. I didnt use low fat products, but I didnt specifically add fat as much as Atkins recommends. So I would use mayo, but would still grill meats!

havent tried it myself but i dont see why not for a week or so, if you start to feel ill come it.

I have been low carbing now for about a week, but havent cut back as far as atkins recommends. I have just cut unnecessary carbs and tried to up my protein and have lost 3lb this week after being stuck for months.

Its fairly easy to follow as it isnt a million miles from the type of eating that is recommended for us as bypassers anyway. i have cut out all junk, and tried to minimise potatoes and rice etc. Had no bread at all, but then Im not a big bread eater.

I have still had milk in my coffee though, and had salad and fruit and tonnes of low fat protein such as salmon, prawns, chicken.

Thanks Julie - That's a great loss for a week after you've been on a stall Sam. That's basically what I was going to do, cut back on carbs and fat and up the protein. I had been eating loads of fruit and I think that is where my problem is. Being a previous diabetic I don't think my body likes sugar at all and doesn't handle it well (even when it's fructose) so I'm going to concentrate on berries, high protein, dark veg and see how I get on. Hope my loss is as good as yours Sam!

Thanks for all the tips ladies.

good luck Stella x
