I was given a very very late notice bypass two weeks ago and whilst I initially had a lot of problems, things are much better now. The problems meant I had to stick to water only for ten days, so I am still on soup for five days now. I have had almost no advice and I don't have a clue what to do. How ling should I be on soup before pureed? I am tolerating soup very well.

Every provider is different. Mine recommended two weeks of fluid only before moving to purée. Who was your provider and why have they not given you any post op support ?

Everything happened so quickly that nothing was really in place properly pist-op. i will give the dietician a call tomorrow I think. It has been a rollercoaster fortnight.

Yes please ring the dietician she will probably send you some info or fax you some or email it even, probably couple of weeks on soup then puree then mushy, depending what your problems were of course, please ring and ask it ois very important especially as you has some probs. xx

Hi

And just to show how different every provider is, after my bypass it was purée for 4 weeks, then mashed for another 4 weeks, then onto solids.

Definatly talk to your teams dietician.

Mine was clear liquid for two weeks and then for the next two weeks it started as puree which would run through a fork getting thicker and thicker until it was stiff enough to eat with a fork - then it was normal foods from week 5.

Mine was a month on puree, a month on crunchy/soft and normal from 8-12 weeks. Isn't it weird how incredibly different every provider's advice is? Not helpful for us really when we're all on here trying to support each other!!

I am sick to death of soup now! I am almost three weeks post op and only been eating a week now. I am missing food but otherwise feeling great. I just need to start making a bit of progress but it looks like soup for another week :( It doesn't feel like I will ever eat anything ever again :'(

Hi

Every hospital had different rules..daft as we have all had the same operation.
But mine advise 4 weeks for each stage, and it's very important not to rush each stage,it's hard but our bodies needs the time to heal properly.
You may need different advice if you've had problems so best to ring a baratric nurse or dietician x take care
