Hiya Guys
Well what a day i have had,let me start at the beginning, are you sitting comfortable?
5am - I got up(good start)got myself sorted making sure everything i needed was packed in my bag,and remembering not to drink anything before we set off.
7am - When we eventually found the Thornbury Clinic in Sheffield after 3 trips up and down Fulwood Rd looking for it,i was shown to a room for the pre op ops to be carried out, didnt unpack as we were told i wouldnt be in that room after the op.
I was told my op was at 9am,given one of those lovely gowns and knickers to match ,oh and stockings cant forget them lol.
8am - Roger Ackroyd came in (nice man )asked if i had any questions, just 1 how long was the op, he told me 40 mins,he also asked that if he couldnt do the bypass for some reason, did i want the band fitted instead,as he had a problem with someone yesterday,of course i said yes please.
9.20am - A knock on the door, and before i knew it i was walking down to theatre, gave my hubby a kiss and we went in different directions.
I was asked to lay on the bed to get ready for my op,but the bed wouldnt lower, you may need a stool i was told lol, anyway a change of controls and the bed lowered,so there i lay waiting for my blood pressure to be taken, and yes you`ve guessed it,the machine didnt work properly, the nurse turned it off then back on and no it still didnt sound right, change of sleeve perhaps lol.yep that worked.needles were put in my hands and i was given given a mask with some lovely air that would knock me out.(that did work btw)
10.20am - I was waking up in recovery, mouth like a **** well need i say lol,i asked what was done and i was told they didnt know would have to wait until i was on HD and they would be able to tell me more, pain relief was given and what a relief it was.
11.10am - Up on HD,i asked the question, did i have the bypass or band, imagine my horror and dispair when i was told he hadnt done anything ,as my liver was the size of a football so he couldnt get to the top of my stomach.
I just cried i couldnt believe it,i had done the 10 day milk and yoghurt diet and i had lost 10lb,why me?
I was told i would have to weight for Roger to come and see me.
12.15pm - Roger came in to see me explain what i had already been told,he said everyone is different and my body deposits fat in my liver,he could refer me to a dietician but i needed to lose about 5st before he would operate on me again.
Yes i know what your thinking,i wanted this op to help me loose weight, done the dietician thing, loose 5st and put it and more back on thingy and if i could loose that much weight again by dieting, would i really want to put myself through all this again.
Anyway at 4.30pm i managed to talk my way out of the clinic only by promising to do my exercises to keep the blood clots away, and after the day i have i am flaming doing them lol.
Sorry if this thread shocks you guys but i needed to let you know not all goes to plan, even after not cheating on the milk and yoghurt diet.
On a brighter point,Roger did say this happens only 3/4 times a yr but unfortunately for me i was one of those patients.
I am still thinking positive, after all Roger took the decision not to put my life at risk .
