Hello my name is Lorne and I am 35 year old male going for the duodenal switch on Monday the 26 th and I am scared can someone help?

Hello Lorne, Welcome to the site. You'll find lots of support, advice and friendship here to help you through your journey. I know I have !
It's totally normal to feel scared. The day will go very quickly and you'll be 'done' before you know it. I practised breathing exercises to keep me calm.
Please fill in your personal details so we know a bit more about you.
Good luck xx

Thank you for your kind words. my mind is racing and I have no one to talk to I am the only one I know doing this..

I think that's why the right forum is so helpful. I don't know anyone who has had surgery in the 'real' world either. I do talk to my partner about it but he doesn't have the personal experience and I've found that there's nothing like chatting to people who have gone through ,or are going to go through, the same thing.
Have a good look round the site, and post lots to get your posts up to 50. A lot of people play the word games lie Word Association to boost this. Once you get to 50 you can send and receive personal messages and read peoples diaries. They are a great source of information, reassurance and inspiration.
Search the site for frightened, worried and scared and you'll see lots of posts written pre-op and the advice that was given.

Hi Lorne and welcome from me also. I had my bypass two weeks ago. We all go through a huge range of different emotions on the run up to the op and this is perfectly normal.

I am sure you will be fine. Just remember that your surgical team are highly trained in what they do. They are used to operating on overweight people and, most important of all they would not even suggest surgery if they thought you were at risk.

Also remember that your age will greatly lower any risk. If it is any comfort to you it was on my 62nd birthday that I had my bypass. Sending you hugs :)

Welcome Lorne

The night before my op I was so frightened and tearful.
You will find the inner strength you need to get you through.
Be brave and strong :)
There are so many lovely people on here that will be there for you, to support you on your journey.
Once your op is done you'll realise it's the best decision you ever made!

Good luck xx

welcome Lorne :) this is a great place to get answers to all sorts of questions you may have, and also to meet new friends that know exactly how you are feeling, good luck for tomorrow, you'll do just fine :) xxx

Hi lorne
I'm new to the site, joined on Friday my op is on the 4th Oct. I'm on my second day of liver reduction diet. I have found everyone on this site very helpful. Ask any question and there is always someone who will answer and give you reassurance.
Good luck with your op on Monday.
Will be thinking of you! ;~}

I know but this is my night before in San Francisco partially rainy and hot. Feeling is itchy, stomach twisting ( no eating) anxiety type of feeling... Have you heard of that.... I only slept for 3 hours for the last few days.

You are about to have major surgery.
Anyone would feel the same as you do at the moment.
Phone a friend or family member.
You need someone who can physically be there for you at this moment in time.
Good Luck and come back and let us know how you got one as soon as possible:bestwishes:

Good luck Lorne!! I realise that it is so late that you may have been to theatre and come back by the time you read this, in that case let's hope it's all gone well for you. I'm quite sure it will :)

You've certainly come to the right web site to find support. Everyone here is great. And we're all in the same boat.
