Looking for advice

18 months ago I met Dr New at Salford Royal and after a couple of visits he recommended me for bariatric surgery and sent a letter to my gp who is in the Ashton Wigan and Leigh PCT. At about the same time the local PCT "signed" up with Aintree Specialist Weight Management Service and I was referred into their network - Dr New's letter was not acted on. I am now 6 months down the line with Aintree meeting with the dietician and physio and haven't a clue what's happening or if there is any plan whatsoever to take me to a panel for consideration once I have been with them for 12 months. All this I am told is because a third of bariatric surgery patients fail and NHS need to safeguard the money spent. I'm diabetic in declining health and mobility as a result of my weight and I'm shocked at reading the posts when people have been referred and operated on sometimes within weeks. Can anyone advise me how to move my PCT fwd and ensure I have my surgery (if fundng is ever approved) within the area of Manchester (I live in Greater Manchester)!

Hi, I'm not from your area so cant really help but the theme of the night for me seems to be telling people phone phone phone them.... I have chased people for my entire journey and i have been approved (west kent pct), However My doctor phoned me last week and said "i'm sorry to trouble you but so you have any information on the west kent pct's contact details"! I nearly choked on my tea...why is my doctor calling me for advice...he then went on and added that he had a patient in his office that had been refered by him on the same day as me, but that she had not heard anything?! bearing in mind all the chasing was some 8 weeks form the day of referal to the day of acceptence this lady is now some two months behind me..... I have my 1st appointment on the 24th of June and yet she's still waiting for approval?! I gave him the contact details that i had sourced and truly believe had that lady phoned as much as i did she would be looking forward to her 1st appointment now too x morale phone phone phone x x hope this helps all the best xxx
